Week Commencing: Sat 29/11/2025

Wonkey Wednesday Thursday

8 anglers this week joined us over on the Road Lake, many familiar faces fishing this week and some fresh faces, for myself, were all eager to get going so walk around done and draw complete let’s read to see how the week played out.

Angler Jon Brooker joined us over on the Road Lake this time around after visiting us earlier in the year on the Main Lake during the CarpFix Social.

Jon put himself into Bacheliers, which is a swim that has had plenty of carp holding up in and around the last couple of weeks and this week was a very similar story.  And just like of late with plenty of shows it has proven hard to get them to drop down and eat, but Jon managed a bite on the first night.  ‘Apple’ at 27lb 8oz was his first reward from the swim and after a joyful start it then wasn’t until the Wednesday evening that his next bit followed.  This turned out to be a slightly better sized fish at 37lb 8oz and a carp called ‘Kaiden’.  After this the fish seemed to begin migrating away from the area, and despite a last night try in Billy’s swim, this was Jon’s final fish of the trip.

25 Wraps out at the left-hand marker pole produced the fish for Jon, baiting just lightly at the beginning of the week and them with just a single small tin of corn catapulted around the area from along the bank nearest the pole.  Solid bags with yellow wafters were enough to tempt the bites, and these were also injected with a creamy oil-based liquid before casting out.

Well done on a very tough week.

Jumping over to the other side and into Double Boards we had angler Martyn Foord, who started off in Turtles Corner but moved early in the week after all the activity down the end of Double Boards.

Despite some frustrating days and nights with fish showing all over the bites remained difficult to come by.  But on the Thursday morning shortly before breakfast his first fish was landed.  ‘Mr Chase’ at 23lb 2oz, only small but it was very welcomed, nevertheless.  Not long after doing the pictures he then went on to land his second fish, again a smaller resident, at 25lb 8oz it is now known as ‘Thatchers’.

After trying solid bags, Martyn switched to spinners with yellow garlic flavoured pop ups to get these two bites, and as I mentioned above at the end of the week the fish began to move so Martyn went back to Turtles for the last night and managed a bite from here and landed a small 20lb common.  This one came from 21 wraps to the right of the dot island as he looked out.

Martyn baited his spots with a mix of hemp, corn and a nut-based boilie to tempt those fish down onto his spot.  This was deployed with the smallest sized Spomb to keep disturbance down to a minimum.

Again, well done Martyn on what was to prove a very tough and frustrating week.

Lastly to get amongst any action this week was Neil “I’ve caught The Armadillo” Taylor.  Neil, despite having a tough draw, still managed to find Tea Party 1 available and this is exactly where he placed himself.

It was a very tough week in here, with little to no shows or action in this area until the end of the week when they started to push back into this area from Bachelier’s end.

And it was no surprise when he had a bite after fish began showing here on the Thursday, and he managed to land a fine-looking mirror weighing 25lb 8oz.  This was Neil’s only fish of the week, but very welcomed to save that blank.

Neil cast a single hook bait to a showing fish at around 21 wraps to the tall trees to the right of Turtles Corner to catch this one. And a D Rig and yellow wafter was enough to tempt it to feed.

Well done on the fish and we will see you again in May on the other side of the road.

Well as you can see another tough week’s angling, but with that very mild spell of weather due to roll in next week let’s hope for the action to pick up somewhat.

Thanks lads for an enjoyable week despite the angling.

Until then, tight lines
