This week over on the Road Lake we only had 3 guests to welcome, with 2 people having to pull out due to unforeseen circumstances, so with the whole lake to choose from they set out around the lake, each getting their first choices of swims.

Starting with Harry Ingram who chose to go in Tea Party 2, it was his first ever visit to us at Gigantica. Opting to fish 22.5 wraps to the “fork tree” Harry chose to bait up past his spot, putting his rigs on the near side of his bait. His choice of bait was house hemp, mixed in with sweetcorn all soaked in Mainline Smart liquid. Harry fished solid bags this week each with a piece of slow sinking maize and tried a variety of Goos but settled on Isotonic, finding this was producing him more bites. With all of his bites coming in the daylight hours Harry had steady bites all week and landed a great range of fish from scalies to rare ones and his biggest of the week coming on the Thursday morning, where he had ‘Le Flair’ at a new top weight of 55lb. Ending the week on 18 fish Harry had a great week, landing ‘Angry Pandy’ at 32lb, ‘Cashew’ at 34lb, ‘Splash’ at 44lb, one that hadn’t been out for 3.5 years ‘Cheggers’ at 47lb 8oz, and ‘Big Scale’ at 48lb 8oz. We look forward to seeing you again Harry.

Next up we had Will Dockerhill who after a tough couple of trips was back again this time getting in his first choice of swim, Decoy. Will was first off the mark this week landing one of our unnamed commons which he got to name ‘Have you done my pictures yet?’ At 32lb coming off a solid bag cast at a showing fish on the Saturday night. That end of the lake seem to go quiet for a couple of days so Will decided to make the move down to Tea Party 1 but unfortunately his efforts weren’t rewarded. We’ll see you next year Will!

After a good session in Bacheliers a few weeks ago I myself decided to drop back in there for a few nights in between work. Fishing 14.5 wraps towards the old swim Single Boards I found a softer more smooth area on the bottom surrounded by gravel. With the out of bounds area we introduced this year I find fishing shorter and giving the carp space, rather than fishing right up to the out of bounds area, gives you a better chance of holding them there and letting them come out to you. After great success on solid bags, I put all 3 rods out at the same length a rod length apart using a single piece of slow sinking maize in orange filling my bags up with garlic goo. Getting in there on Sunday night I put 2kilos in a wide spread of Mainline Cell out with the throwing stick and managed a bite the following morning just before first light where I had ‘Boilie Head’ at a new top weight of 52lb 8oz. With other things to do I didn’t get back in the swim until Wednesday night and with fish in the area when I arrived went straight in with just the bags and managed a 34lb common.

We also had Gareth ‘Gino’ Radley on this week in between duties, fishing over in Dunkerque. Going in with his semi fixed solid bag method, Gino fished 14 wraps towards the gap in the dot island, 14 at the island and 9 wraps to his left towards Decoy. Fishing just the bags themselves with pink wafters and a splash of Honey Goo, Gino managed to land one on Wednesday night where he had ‘Flying Dutchman’ at a new top weight of 54lb, a cracking looking fish.

That’s all for this week, and as you can see solid bags certainly doing the do over on the Road Lake and plenty still coming out with 24 fish landed.

Tight Lines,

Greg.
