Week Commencing: Sat 30/08/2025

The Irish carve up!

12 fresh faces joining us on the road lake for the first time. A lake exclusive raring too go. Lets read on too see how they all got on!

We will start off with Chris Foulis coming out 7th in the draw and slotting himself into The Decoy With over 40 plus bites coming from there the previous week he was over the moon getting into the swim after coming out late in the draw. The plan for the week would be two rods at the 18 wrap spot down the bund and one to the silver birch tree left of The Bund swim. Feeding 15mm Cell and house maize from the margin with a bait spoon. The rig choice for the session would be solid bags, German rig style, with a 12mm Cell wafter. What a week this turned out for Chris. 59 bites , lets run through some of the biggest he had. A PB for himself with ‘Eye-Q’ 56lb. Congratulation on your first trip out to Gigantica also earning yourself a dirty bucket on Friday evening. Plenty of 20s and 30s in between the big girls, the consistent baiting off the bund of around a couple KG going in after every bite was doing the trick. ‘Ava’ 49lb was next up from the single silver birch tree. With myself taking over the pond on Thursday, it was time to get back round to Decoy after the famous G gammon egg and chips. 4 fish in the sling straight after dinner, and not one below 46lb! ‘Stubby’ 54lb 8oz, ‘Lottchen’ 47lb 8oz and ‘Porky’ 48lb. Top rod chris! Whilst taking photo’s, Chris was away again, with his friend Chris on stand bye to hit the rod and having a tough session in Brambles it was nice for him to net ‘Breakfast o’clock’ 46lb, Some serious angling going on up in Decoy! The Rod’s were deployed back out and it was more 20s and 30s smashing the bait on the far margin with another three for the evening. Friday came round and it was simple, stick to the tactic. ‘Holepunch’ 38lb with ‘Galaxy’ 39lb part of a double take for Chris, just after dinner on Friday it was a couple more 20s and then ‘fanta’ 36lb! What a week this turned out to be 59 bites landed and a trip of a life time for chris! Proving not always coming out in the top half of the draw always pays off! Cracking week mate and Congratulations on your PB!

Over the other side of the far margin with have Alex Chew, Coming out 10th in the draw, Alex set up the gear for the week in The Bund. One rod out at 7wraps towards decoy and the other 4 wraps towards the tall lone tree in the distance. What a first time out this also turned out to be at The Big G. Solid bags were the tactic fishing Cell dumbell Wafters 13mm. Spombing to draw the fish from Decoy, with 10mm 15mm and 18mm fishmeal boilie, house maize and house pellet was the bait for the week. Catapult is the usual feeding tactic in there, but with so many fish being caught from decoy the noise from the spomb was certainly drawing them across. 33 Bites came from The Bund, with plenty of doubles, 20s and 30s, Lets talk about some of the bigger ones Alex had. Starting with ‘Korda social common’ 54lb 4oz and ‘The Long Common’ 51lb. These were back to back bites for Alex within a hour. Feeding just boilie after putting mainly house maize and pellet in were definitely slipping up the bigger carps! A new record for The Bund with 33 bites, a fantastic week for yourself Alex, Well done on the two Big Girls, and hope too see you back again some time.

Over the pond in Turtles Corner we have Darren Riley, With regular bites coming from turtles over the last two months it was a cracking draw for Darren. The rig’s for the week would be spinner rig’s with a fishmeal dumbell wafter as the hook bait coated in Pango goo. Feeding only boilie, 10mm and 15mm cell. Fishing 21 wraps to the dot island and 13 wraps towards Tea party 1. 7 bites for Darren this week, all 7 coming through the night 5 off the dot island and two bites coming from 13 wraps. The boilie approach worked, as on Tuesday evening Darren landed one of the larger residents of the road lake, and not far off its top weight, ‘Two Tone’ 65lb from the 13 wrap spot towards Tea party one, all smiles around for Chris, especially after seeing so many carp being caught up the other end of the lake. Well fished mate and were see you back some time next year!

Next up we have Will Holden, coming out 12th in the draw. After seeing a few shows on the walk round set up in Double Boards. Combi rig’s with Yellow Slow Sinking Maize were the hook bait choice. Will’s bait choice for the week, House maize and pellet with 10mm fishmeal boilie. 5 bites came from Double Board, fishing 13 wraps towards bacheliers. ‘Alfred’ 38lb 4oz’ with ‘Cooky’ 34lb 12oz, with 3 20’s. A move on Friday morning to billy’s didn’t pay off. how ever after hearing Alex in the bund was winding in early in the bund, Will mad another move. A hour was enough Saturday morning to land 3 carps, 2x30s and the biggest going Le Flair ‘45lb 14oz’. Great move mate, ending up with 8 fish landed for the week.

Bachelier’s is where we are next with Adam Marshall. Fishing three on the spot at the lone tree left of Double Boards at 15wraps, Lightly Feeding to nick a bite known a lot of fish were stacked down the other end of the lake. Baiting up with House maize, premium pellet, 15mm fishmeal boilie and 15mm iso fish. It was a slow week for Adam, However the patience paid off, Landing one of the big girl’s, ‘A-Star’ 57lb 8oz. Solid bags with a single slow sinking maize yet again finding one the bigger girls in the net. Well done mate on a tough week at the other end of the lake.

Coming out 5th in the draw we have ‘Conor Patty’ setting himself up in Dunkerque. The tactic for the week would be solid bags, with a IB yellow dumbell, baiting up with Big G  pellet and maize, along with 15mm iso fish boilies. Two bites coming from dunkerque this week, fishing 9 wraps at The Decoy was the best plan, getting as close to the fish as possible. A upper 20 was the first bite, but what came next was a special carp for the road lake and one of the rare one’s in ‘Mable’ 59lb 4oz. What a way to get yourself a PB! Congratulations mate! Epic Carp, That was it for Conor but cracking angling on Mable!

Next to him in The Beach we have Marty Mckibbin, The chief of the group! What a gentleman he was! It was slow in The Beach This week managing a few bites. How ever with Martys suprise he managed ‘After Work’ 50lb. Well done mate, cracking capture!

Top camera man over in The poo Kris Mcgrath. Had a tough week watching carp being caught the other end of the lake, However he managed 2 bites upto 29lb. Fishing 10.5 wraps in front and 8 wraps towards turtles. Solid bags doing the trick again along spinners, Cell hard hookers topped with slow sinking maize doing the bites. Well done on the blank savers, Hopefully you can get yourself back here and get yourself a chunk!

Last but not least, we have Chris moffett, a tough week for Chris fishing in Brambles. Feeding fishmeal boilie, crumb and house maize, with solid bags was the plan. After a slow week and watching his mate in Decoy have all the bites, It wasn’t until Saturday morning when he got his first bite, with 30lber, then the next bite came soon after and made his trip with a PB. ‘Ringo’ 47lb 4oz. Congratulations chris, stuck it out and got into them in the end. Sticking too your spots and being patient served you well in the end!

A great bunch of lads on the road lake this week, was a pleasure having you guy’s and we hope too see you in the future!

That’s all for this week, we managed a full house of captures. Will the carp stay in the bund area or will they get on the move next week?

Tight Lines,

Tom
