Photos in the storm
Lets start with Jason O’Shaughnessy who was fishing in The Poo. On the first night Jason was watching the water and had noticed a few fish showing infront of him at around 10 wraps so he decided to tie a solid bag and get the rods out. To everyone surprise he managed to pick off a very known fish here on the Road Lake called Ron’s weighing 57lb 4oz. Ron’s was stocked into Road Lake at a weight of 39lb 14oz in February 2014. Although this fish is known as a 70lb plus which was caught in November 2023 it is currently down in weight. Jason was using solid bag rigs with a size 4 Krank, 25lb super natural braided hook link. In his P.V.A bag was a fish based pellet with a pink surprise in the centre. After he managed to catch Ron’s he hadn’t managed to land anything else afterwards.
Next up we have Matthew Pole fishing in Turtles Corner. Matthew was having such a good week he decided to share his rods with his good friend Owain. With them managing to land over 40 fish between them. Matthew’s biggest he landed was a fish named Big Bob weighing 52lb. He had landed this just before the thunderstorm on the last night which forced us to do the photos in the storm. He also managed to catch another known fish too us called Missing Link weighing 47lb 12oz. Matthew caught the majority of his fish from 21 wraps to the dot island using the combi multi rig with 5 inches of 25lb boom and 4.5cm of super natural braid with a size 4 Kurv Shank hook topped off with a 18mm ISO Fish bottom bait trimmed for a single piece of yellow slow sinking maize. Matthew’s spot mix contained a mix of house pellet, maize, 18mm ISO Fish and 15mm Essential Cell including some crushed. To add extra attraction he added Cell and ISO Fish smart liquid over the top.
Over in Shingles we had Mark Mayhew who managed to land a number of 40lb pluses. Starting off with the biggest he had caught which is Errol weighing 47lb 8oz, followed by Mia weighing 43lb 12oz, Gino’s weighing 42lb, Stien weighing 41lb 12oz. Mark caught all his fish from 18 wraps to the island fishing over 12mm and 16mm cream based boillies with hemp and maize topped off with a cream based cloud liquid. Mark was fishing a bacon blow back rig with Korda wide gape x in size 6 and Korda coated braid.
David Reeve in Bacheliers managed to land 2 40lb plus’s. Starting with Quaver weighing 48lb 8oz which yet again was just before the storm making us all get wet. David was fishing P.V.A Bags using size 4 P.V.A rigs with yellow slow sinking maize. Davids spot mix contained just hemp and maize. He had caught his fish from 15 wraps to the lone tree and also 25 wraps to the gap in the rushes on the opposite bank.
At the opposite side of the lake we have Matt Grinham fishing in Dunkerque who had managed to pick off two fish in the night. Biggest being a 35lb common caught from 15 wraps to the island and the second weighing 25lb 8oz caught from 9 wraps to Decoy. Matt’s spod mix contained Mainline ISO Fish in 18 and 15mm chopped boillies with house pellet topped off with ISO Fish smart liquid. For his rig he was using a turbo German rig with Korda curve shank hook size 4 and 7 inch boom. As hook bait he was using 18mm ISO Fish wafter soaked in Korda isotonic goo.
In between was Brandon Lee in Billys. Brandon managed to land a total of 16 fish with a couple being from double takes. He had caught his fish from 21 wraps on the right margin fishing 2 rods on the same spot. His spot mix contained Mainline Cell boillies in 18mm and 12mm with a few handfuls of Essential Cell included mixed with maize. Brandon was using spinner rigs with a size 4 Krank hook topped with double slow sinking maize in orange.
