MOVING CARP
Lets start this report at the beginning of the week here at Gigantica on Road Lake.
To get us started we have Ronnie Moore in Turtles Corner who had landedthe first fish of the trip within a couple hours. Ronnie had managed to land a Road Lake monster known as “The Nose” weighing 56lb and was stocked in February 2014 weighing 32lb. This was Ronnie’s first French capture and a new PB. He had caught it from 21 wraps to the island straight out in front starting with around 15-20 spombs over the top. For Ronnies spod mix he was using a fish based boillie and corn. His terminal tackle contained a spinner rig with a boom like hook link, a size 4 wide gape hook and a 12mm yellow pop-up.
Next up we have James Bryne fishing Billys who had an amazing start to his session landing a total of 5 fish in the first night with 2 of them being in their 40s, his biggest of the trip and a new PB being a 48lb common called “Krak Off”. This is it’s biggest weight its been with its last recorded capture being nearly exactly 2 years ago on the 29/07/2023. James had also managed to land another 40 plus being a stunning Gigantica resident called “Jack” weighing 45lb 8oz. He had caught them both from 21 wraps towards the island fishing P.V.A bags with Essential Cell dumbbell wafter. His spot mix contained flaked maize, corn, hemp and whole Mainline Essential Cell boillies in 15mm and 10mm and for extra attractant he was using Essential Cell smart liquid over the top. James went on to catch another 6 fish at the end of the week from 19 and half wraps from the second set of rushes on the left side of birches, using the same method.
During mid week the fish had decided to explore more of the lake and leaving James alarms to become quite after they decided to push north west towards Bacheliers and Double Boards.
I myself was fishing in Bacheliers this week, and had managed to land 2 fish. I was fishing 25 wraps straight out towards the rushes due to seeing them show in the safe zone. To bait this spot I spombed over the top and had also walked round to the far margin to spread a little bait in the safe zone leading towards where I was fishing. I was also fishing at 21 wraps towards the corner which had landed me next to an over hanging tree. For this spot I just walked round and baited from the margin. In my spod mix I was mainly using maize with 15mm and 10mm Essential Cell boillies. I had also added Essential Cell Smart Liquid over the top for extra attraction. For my rigs I was using dark matter hook link with a size 6 long shank beaked hook topped with double fake maize in yellow.
In Doubles Boards we had Paul who was fishing in Brambles at the beginning of the week, however had seen the carp jumping on the right of Double Boards, so he decided to move. He had managed to land one fish in the night weighing 21lb, fishing 15 wraps towards Bacheliers. Paul’s mix contained a fish based boillie and maize. Unfortunately, this was it for Paul however, at least it saved a blank.
Now lets see where their next move was to.
Tea Party 1! In here was Henry Hartley-Hughes who was fishing 21 wraps towards Turtles Corner. He managed to land a total of 3 fish whilst in Tea Party 1, with the biggest being a lovely looking 48lb 8oz common named “Porky” which was also a new PB for him. For Henry’s spod mix he was using maize, hemp and chopped fish based boillie. Henry was using a slip-d rig with a size 4 wide gape hook, topped with a yellow dumbbell wafter. For the last night Henry decided to move in Brambles where he managed to land another 2 fish. One of them being a very noticeable fish named “Blowt Fish” weighing 34lb. This was caught from 21 wraps to the bonsai tree straight out in-front. Henry was fishing the same method as he did in Tea Party 1.
Next up we have Paul Cherrington in Tea Party 2. Paul has had an amazing session landing a total of 20 fish with an overall weight of 564lb and the biggest being 45lb called “Phil Macrackin”. Paul was fishing all three rods to the far margin, ranging from 21 wraps to 23 wraps. For his rig he was using a spinner rig with Korda boom and a size 4 krank hook topped with double yellow maize. Pauls spod mix contained hemp, maize, 15mm and 10mm Cell boillie and flaked maize. All Paul’s bites came mid week once the fish had moved across, however towards the end of the week Paul’s amazing session came to an end once they had moved once again.
The carps final move of the week!!
To finish it off, we have Liam Smith in Decoy. Liam had struggled all week until the last day where he managed to land a total of 8 fish with 3 being 40 plus. Liam had caught all his fish down his right margin at 18 wraps fishing over a bed of bait containing hemp, maize and a fish based boillie. Liams rig was a slip-d topped with yellow maize. His biggest being a rare capture called “Snooki” weighing 56lb, which was a new PB for Liam. This is its biggest captured weight and only gets caught once a year. In 2024 Snooki came out weighing 45lb which means its put on 11lb in one year! Another amazing capture for Liam was “The Wedge” weighing 48lb. Thats 2 of many Gigantica’s amazing Road Lake commons. The one that go away, Liam had also landed a 44lb common however it fought him harder on the matt than in the water and had managed to escape. As the 44 being the first one he had caught, frustration was in the air however he kept his head and managed to land The Wedge and then Snooki. Good angling mate!
Tight Lines,
