Chasing Carp?

Another week at Gigantica, with more hot sunny weather on the cards and 12 returning customers this week to the Road Lake lets read on to find out how they all got on!

Let’s start this catch report off with Lee Hardy fishing this week in Dunkerque.  Lee went on to catch Frankie weighing 51lb 5oz, which was a new PB for him so well-done Lee.

He also went on to catch one of Giganticas beautiful stockies weighing 12lb 4oz.  This was its first recorded capture since being stocked so Lee got the amazing opportunity to name the fish. Lee christened it as RH Social.

Other notable captures during the week were Prince Of Darkness weighing 28lb 8oz.

He was fishing 11 and a half wraps straight out towards the right side of the island from the swim as he looked.  Lee was using spinner rigs with a size 6 Krank hook and 25lb Boom.  To tempt the fish to take his rigs, Lee used double fake IB corn in yellow.

Next up this week we have Lewis Smalley who started off in Decoy for the first night, however he had no joy so decided to move into The Goo where the fish were showing more often.  Although he still had no joy in his second swim, he then decided to make a big decision on Wednesday to move once more, this time into Shingles.

On the first night in his third swim of the week Lewis knew that he made the right decision as in the night at around 3 o’clock he managed to get his net under a Gigantica chunk called Mysterio, weighing 51lb.

Also, the following night Lewis managed to land another good carp called Top Loader weighing 49lb 2oz.  This time this was caught on a 12ft zig with black foam in open water.

Lewis was fishing 18 wraps towards the dot island and had put roughly 25kg of 18mm and 16mm krill boilies to this spot, consisting of whole and chopped boilie.  He also had Gigantica house pellet and krill oil in his spod mix for added attraction.

Fishing from Billy’s we had James Arnall. James was off to a cracking start into the session after managing to land Broken Tail spinning the dials around to 49lb on the Monday morning.  This was also a new personal best for James so well-done mate.

Midweek James went on to land one of our smaller residents called Pedro which weighed 18lb 9oz.

During his session James went on to catch several fish through the nights which he did self takes himself.

James was catching most of his carp from 19 and a half wraps to the second set of rushes on the right-hand side of Birches.

James had caught his fish this week using a multi rig which comprised of Krank hooks in size 4. He was fishing with a cream based bottom bait topped with a yellow corn.

Over in Turtles Corner this week was Luke Wilson, who had chosen a swim that has been in good form over the last few weeks.  Luke managed to land Hobnob weighing 48lb 2oz from 16 wraps towards his left-hand margin.

Luke had also landed a 37lb 10oz mirror carp.  This was caught on a 11ft zig towards Birches.

Luke had caught the majority of his fish on a combi rig using a fish-based wafter. Luke had used minimal bait at the start of his session, however towards the end of his stint he began to introduce more bait to keep the bites coming during the remainder of his session.  He managed over 20 bites during the week.

Pete Beavan had a good start during his time with us due to picking out ball number one on the draw.

Pete decided to fish Tea Party 1 as the fish were showing a lot in this part of the lake during the walk round.  Pete had a good week’s fishing here with us, managing to land a total of 16 fish including two above the 40lb mark.  The biggest of these two being a stunning Gigantica resident called The Model weighing 47lb 4oz. Then not long after landing The Model, Pete had another take being yet another 40lb plus carp.  This one is called Cage Fighter and weighed 41lb on the nose.

From Tea Party 1 he set his stall out fishing two rods on one spot, 21 wraps towards the first big tree to the right of Turtles Corner, his other rod he used to explore the swim with during the week.  All the bites he managed all came from the 21-wrap zone.

Throughout the week he also caught another amazing looking Gigantica resident, namely Blowt Fish weighing 37lb 4oz.

Pete had caught all his fish on safe zone leaders with running lead clips, and a 4.25oz lead. For his rigs Pete was using 25lb Boom with a size 4 beaked long shank hook. Pete also believed that the shot on the hook helped him catch and land all his fish. He also believes that “it makes all the difference”.

The bait mix he used contained 10mm Essential Cell and ISO Fish boilies with house pellet topped off with rock salt and cream Smart Liquid.

Enjoying a social in his swim next to his friend was Andy Sheppard fishing from Tea Party 2. He was fishing at 21 wraps towards the dead tree on the opposite bank he managed to land a handful of carp up to 36lb.

Andy also managed to catch one of our grass carp which weighed 30lb.

The business side of Andys tackle contained 25lb Boom with a size 4 Wide Gape using as a spinner rig.

He used Cell cork dust pop-ups to attract the fish to bite.

Arron Heath fishing Double Boards managed to land a number of fish during the nighttime with the biggest being 35lb 4oz. Arron was fishing 15 wraps to the start of the rushes on the left-hand side of Bachilliers. He landed his carp using a Ronnie rig with a size 6 Kamakura Wide Gape with Supernatural.

Another angler who was on the move this week was Andy Christopher starting out in shingles however within 2 days he decided to move swim due to thinking he would have better opportunities from decoy. The move paid off for him when he landed The Mosquito weighing 23lb. This was caught from 18 wraps down his right-hand margin. Not long after he also managed to slip the net under, yet another carp called KP weighing 19lb 5oz.

The effort of the move paid off, well done Andy.

Lloyed Condliffe fished from The Poo where he managed a couple of carp caught from 9 wraps on the bar towards Double Boards. Despite them not being any of the larger residents its still nice to get a bend in the rod with one of our original scaley bangers called Baby Orange Scaley weighing 20lb.

Lloyed caught his fish using a German rig with a size 4 Wide Gape hook and N-Trap hook link. Throughout the week he used a fish-based boilie to tempt the fish to feed.

Fishing in The Bund was Rhys Horsnell who had managed to maximise his chances whilst the fish were in the area for a short period of time by catching Ottie weighing 31lb 4oz. Rhys had managed to name this fish as it was an unrecorded fish for the lake. He placed his rig at 7 wraps with a PVA bag to tempt a quick bite. Rhyse was fishing a white coloured slow sinking corn in his solid bag that consisted of a mixture of house bag mix.

So that’s it for another week here at the Road Lake. With signs of the carp still looking in a spawny mood let’s see what next week brings.
