Week Commencing: Sat 07/06/2025
Are they finished with spawning?
After the fish having another go at spawning last week, and it being a bit slow, we were all hoping they were going to get their heads down. Lets see how they got on.
First up we have Craig who got himself in Billy’s, a swim in good form recently and certainly carried on this week. Craig started off fishing 21 wraps towards Tea Party 2 with one rod and the other two fishing 19 at the boat platform opposite. It wasn’t long until Craig was off the mark picking up one the first night and losing one. Following advice from myself and going off recent reports, Craig started off slow with the bait feeding Manilla boilie in a good spread and fishing solid bags over the top with yellow Isotonic hook baits. Craig had a successful week landing 16 fish with his biggest being ‘Hercules’ at 35lb 12oz along with other 30s and 20s but unfortunately didn’t manage to land any of the bigger fish that the Road Lake has to offer. Craig’s bites were all coming at night time anywhere from dusk to dawn.
Next up, on the opposite bank, one of Craig’s friends Karl who was fishing in Birches. Karl spent the week fishing his left rod at 14 wraps towards the corner of Billy’s and his other two rods 21 wraps towards the reeds at Billy’s. Started off a slow week for Karl as it wasn’t until Tuesday when it all kicked off and he got off the mark landing 6 fish starting with a 38lb 8oz common, then the ‘Korda Social Common’ at 49lb 8oz just 8oz short of his PB then managed 4 fish off his longer rods, the biggest being a 28lb common. Karl spent the week fishing 2 rods on solid bags using crushed Manilla boilie with a match the hatch bottom bait coated in pineapple goo, and on his other rod a spinner rig with a 20mm matching bottom bait with a piece of cork inserted in the top. After a manic night Tuesday, Karl ended his week having one more the Wednesday night being 17lb 8oz coming off the long spot. Just shows if you are prepared, you can capitalise when they turn up on you.
Next up we had Stephen who came out late in the draw but still managed to get into Bacheliers a swim that was very active on our walk round but seemed to go quiet once Ste got set up. After a couple of quiet nights and the other end of the lake being very active, Ste decided to make the move to Brambles for a bit of a social with his mate next door in Decoy, with the hope of picking one up too. Unfortunately for Ste the carp had other ideas and it wasn’t until he moved back into Bacheliers for the last day and night where he managed to pick 5 up in quick succession with the biggest being ‘Layla’ at 37lb 7oz coming off the left hand margin at 23 wraps. Fishing a D-rig over a spread of boilie and house pellet is what did it for Ste, feeding little and often in the shallower water.
Last but not least this week we had Michael who got into Tea Party 1 this week and chose to fish it at 21.5 wraps towards Turtles corner with solid bags using the house bag mix we have on offer here at Gigantica. It was a pretty slow week for Michael unfortunately but he did manage one fish early on in the week managing to catch ‘Smudge’ at 33lb at first light on Monday, but they just seemed to push off him after that getting themselves tight in the margins.
So thats it for this week. Same tactics still working on the Road Lake with spreads of boilie and solid bags still doing the majority of the bites.
Tight Lines,
Greg.
