Week Commencing: Sat 24/05/2025
The ‘Real’ Welsh Wizard
With the Road lake slowing down in recent week’s due to spawn, lets find out how the next 12 anglers faired this week, Would we have anymore chunks out ?
First up we start with Gwion Wright, Coming out 2nd in the draw he decided to set himself up in ‘The Decoy’ after seeing plenty of fish in the bund area of the lake. This was gwion’s third trip on the road lake after a few unsuccessful trips. This wasn’t the case third time round! The tactic for the week would be fishing the 18 wrap margin spot, Feeding mainline cell crumb, iso fish 15mm whole boilie, house maize and cell smart liquid. The hook bait choice’s were two Double slow sinking maize and match the hatch boilie. Gwion with quickly off the mark with a 22lb Common on the first day. It wasn’t until the Tuesday for the next bite, and a huge smile on his face knowing it was a new PB in ‘Layla’ 39lb 10oz. Well in mate. Wednesday started with ‘Tyler’ 23lb and what happened next was a shock to the system for gwion, after already beating his PB of course he was at it again, with ‘The Reincarnated’ 55lb 10oz. Well deserved after a few tough trips! Well in mate. Thursday night saw gwion land a 35lb Common and upper 20. This was it for the week, what a cracking birthday week this was, hoped you enjoyed the birthday cake, along with the Friday Soaking. Well done mate cracking weeks fishing.
Coming out 3rd in the draw and his second trip on the Road Lake we have Garreth Taylor, after seeing plenty of showing fish in the bund area and out at the 14 wrap spot towards The Decoy he decided to set himself up in The Beach for the week with the previous week also getting into a few after a tough week, knowing this Garreth decided to bait lightly to try and knick a few bites. His bait tactic for the week was feeding 15mm iso fish boilie out the bag with the throwing stick which has faired really well on the pond, solid bags with mainline pva mix, hook bait choices were, Link wafters 12mm topped off with 10mm Mainline Quads. With the fish in front of him on the 14 wrap spot at The Decoy it took until the Sunday morning for his first bite, and what a start landing ‘Fanta’ 32lb 10oz and a new PB for Garreth, Well in mate. Carrying on the same tactic he managed 5 more bites for the week, biggest being 26lb, unlucky not to get into any of the ‘A team’ but a PB to go home with, and im sure we will see you again in the future. Well done mate
Next up we have a regular on the road lake in Leon Fray who was starting his double week. With the draw not being kind to Leon after coming out 10th, With limited choices to choose from he was over the moon with being able to slot himself into Dunkerque after this producing a number of big carps over the last month. Fishing towards the dot island at 13 wraps and 9 wraps at The decoy would be the spots for the week. Feeding 14-18mm fishmeal boilie with the throwing stick and catapult. Rig choice’s for the session would be solid bags with micro pellet, spinner rigs fishing 14mm yellow popups. With the fish previously spawning it was looking like a tough week ahead. Leon made the best out of a bad situation, landing ‘lockdown’ 38lb along with ‘The dutch’ 36lb midweek, along with a upper 20. Well done on the 3 bites mate, hope next week improves for you!
We also had Nathan Churchill who came out 11th in the draw setting himself up in Turtles corner, fishing the 21 spot to the dot island. Tactic for the week would be solid bags with mainline pva pellet and yellow 12mm dumbell wafters, with a light spread of mainline cell 15mm. With it being a tough week Nath did really well too land himself ‘Andromeda’ 43lb 8oz. With not a lot showing in front of him, he decided to make a move on the Friday morning to The Bund with a lot of fish activity. Landing himself ‘Joe’s Common’ 30lb 4oz. That was it for nath. Well in mate and were see you next time!
A tough week for the guy’s with 21 bites coming from the pond, and the fish still in spawning mode, We hope for better next week.
All the best, tight lines,
Tom
