Week Commencing: Sat 10/05/2025
Fly me to the moon….
With the road lake fishing so well as of late and spawning becoming one of the main questions how would it fare this week, would the fish stay in the tree line of Turtles Corner where majority of bite’s have been coming from or move out ? Read on to find out
First up we have Marcus Clarke and his partner with his second trip to Gigantica after a unsuccessful trip on the main lake last time out… This wasn’t the case second time around! After coming out 8th in the draw Marcus decided to set himself up in Billy’s, fishing 18 wraps straight out in front, listening to the bailiff’s advice using solid bags with a fishmeal hook bait, his bait approach was throwing stick boilie match the hatch style 15-18mm. It took until Monday morning for the first bite to come in ‘Rosie’s Common’ 25lb the tactic seemed to be working with plenty of fish showing in front of billy’s! With Quiet days on the road with not a lot happening Marcus spent a lot of time with lines out the water, which certainly helped with the bites. Early hour’s Tuesday morning Marcus landed ‘Bronson’ 40lb and he was over the moon! Well… it got even better! A early morning bite and the phone call of ‘got a chunk here tom'. Opening the sling to see ‘Two Tone’ at 63lb 10oz . A great moment to share with Marcus as he was absolutely buzzing with a new PB. Well in mate! Landing 11 fish for the week Marcus was made up and can’t wait to come back out, See you next year!
Top end of the lake we have Ben Yates coming out 7th in the draw and slotting himself into The Decoy. Ben’s approach was very chilled and very organised, whilst going around to see him every morning on the breakfast run to frank Sinatra playing in the back ground ‘Lovely times’ . Ben’s approach would be using solid bags, fishing 4 inch hook links, 15mm mainline cell Bottom bait with a yellow washed out mainline popup snowman style, Feeding 15-18mm Fishmeal Boilie, and a little maize, Fishing down the margin at 18 wraps towards the two tall tree’s in the distance and baiting from the bund. Ben’s first bite came in the early hour’s of Monday morning with ‘ The Jewel’ 55lb 8oz what a start! The stamp of fish ben had was rather impressive! Tuesday Morning ben landed ‘Kulture Klub’ 47lb 12oz , ‘Rio’ at 38lb along with ‘Galaxy at 38lb 2oz and ‘The submarine’ 48lb to end a cracking morning in The decoy! With old frank on in the back ground playing and the calm approach by Ben it took until Thursday for the next bite in ‘Ava’ 48lb 4oz! Friday came, with ben seeing his friend Russ Hardy having a tough time in Double Boards with no action, He gave him the call to go around to his swim and share the rod’s. Russ Landing ‘Lumpy’ at 40lb 8oz and a new PB, then again with ‘Herman’ 42lb 12oz breaking his PB again, just in time for the famous Big G soaking, Well done lad’s with the swim ending up on 19 bites , what a cracking week and a impressive stamp of fish!
Next up we have Regular Jamie ‘Robbo’ Robinson coming out last but not least in the draw. With a few show’s on the walk round Jamie decided to slot himself into ‘The Birches’ His approach to start off with was 21 wraps towards Billy’s, using a baiting approach of 15mm-18mm mainline cell and house pellet. Hook bait choice was solid bags with micro pellets and two fake IB slow sinking maize. Landing ‘Little Big Scale’ 25lb 8oz and ‘ The Millenial ‘ 34lb 8oz on the Sunday morning. Jamie fancied a change of tactic come Tuesday and used the approach of solid bags at showing fish come the evening, this tactic worked a treat. As late Tuesday evening the biggest fish of the week for himself landed ‘2 scale’ 57lb 12oz’ and a new PB. What a fish and well done mate! Still absolutely over the Moon with his previous capture, Jamie also had ‘ Old town Road’ 42lb and ‘The Archer’ 47lb 2oz just before leaving! What a week for Jamie, Ending up on 9 bites, 8 of them coming through the hour’s of darkness. Not a lot of sleep, but when you catch fish that size who cares! Congratulations on your PB mate, Coming last in the draw isn’t always doom and gloom!
We have Regular James Morgan-Boulton traveling with his dad back from a tough trip in February on the main lake, landing himself 1 Stocky . This time around it was a different story! Coming out 9th in the draw James slotted himself into Dunkerque. Previous week did some good fish so it seemed only right to go into the swim choice! What a week James had! The bait approach was simple, throwing stick Iso fish 18mm only between 13-16 Wraps using Solid bags with Mainline Sweetcorn Wafter’s. Well what a start James got off too, With his first bite coming on the Sunday with ‘Korda Social Common’ 56lb and a new PB, Fantastic start, Well done mate! Carrying on his approach with the throwing stick, James then had ‘Eddy’ 48lb 4oz and ‘The Stalker’ 47lb 14oz . With James breaking his PB once already previously in the week was it possible to do it again?….. of course it was, Landing ‘The Reincarnated’ 57lb Pb’s going off all over the lake. Congratulation’s James you fully deserved this one, and the soaking was even better with his dad on stand by with a couple of bucket’s, Class! 13 Fish to end the week, Well done mate and we shall see you back next year to go one better ?
Across the Pond in Tea Party 1 we have Harry Dean coming out 3rd in the draw, Previous week’s have been doing a lot of big carp’s, So lets see how harry got on. Harry’s Approach, solid bag combo mix with 14mm Yellow popup’s. Nothing to complicated as harry has fished the Road Lake before and went with casting at showing fish, Seeing a few show’s on the 14 wrap spot at the church spire he started with 2 bags on there, Managing ‘Nailed’ 52lb 8oz, a couple of ounce’s off his PB on the first day! Come Tuesday from the same spot he had ‘Churchill’ 37lb. Not a lot coming out from this end of the lake, However he stuck to the game plan and managed another in 'The Grey’ 52lb 2oz, The tactic for this one, Patiently watching the water, Casting solid bags to showing carp. Well done on getting into a few carp’s mate!
Rick Boulton back with his son James after there February trip on the main lake, Landed himself in The Beach after coming out 5th in the draw. Rick’s bait approach 15mm mainline cell and house pellet fishing 14 wraps towards The Decoy and 15 wraps out in front of him, Using solid bags, with match the hatch hook baits. On Tuesday rick had ‘ The Crazy Common’ 37lb 4oz along with ‘Brown ale’ 21lb 8oz. With a lot of fishing showing towards the bund it was the case of sit on your hands and hope a chunk comes along, well it worked ! Rick landing ‘Mysterio’ at 56lb and a new PB congratulation’s fully deserved after all the effort put in this year. Rick landed a few more upper and lower 20s, taking his tally to 8 for the week. Well done Rick see you back next year!
Last up we have Pete Golding and a regular of the road lake, Coming out 2nd in the draw, setting himself up in Turtles Corner after previous week’s doing so well. Fishing two on the 21 wrap to the dot island and one to the left at 23 wraps to the far margin,Feeding fishmeal Boilie 15mm-18mm with smart liquid and solid bags, with match the hatch hook baits. Shortly after setting up and a lot of carp showing in the area, Pete got off the mark fast with ‘P J’s’ 31lb 8oz. We we’re both under the impression it was going to be a busy week again for Pete in turtles, sadly this wasn’t the case and the fish did the off just around the corner in the main body of water towards brambles. How ever managing a upper 20 and ‘Bomber’ 46lb softened the blow with a few bites to go home with.
Looking like the fish aren’t just holding up in the ‘Common spots’ on the lake , its exciting times for the road and we hope this continues, Plenty of Pb’s and buckets with another great bunch over on the road lake
Tight Lines,
Tom
