Week Commencing: Sat 12/04/2025

Sunset Commons

First up this week we have Alex Paterson who got himself in Turtles Corner this week after a good draw. Starting off slow on the bait Alex was using the tree lined margin to bait up with a spread of boilie in a variety of sizes, putting it out with his catapult. Fishing D-rig spinners with boilie and little toppers, Alex was soon off the mark catching two on his first night, having a new PB with ‘Nutmeg’ at 42lb 2oz. After getting off the mark, Alex kept the bait going in after each bite and putting out a couple of kilo after dinner. This was getting him steady action throughout the week, ending the week on 13 fish, having another 40lber known as ‘Herman’ at 40lb 4oz along with a cracking original scaley called ‘The Fraud’ at 30lb and several 20’s like ‘-2’ at 27lb, ‘The Shamen’ at 27lb and ‘Tuna’ at 24lb also managing to name one himself ‘Tank’ at 20lb.

Next up we have Matt Mitchel who started his week in The Bund but after a few days decided to move down into The Beach where hed been seeing them show short. Going off this Matt fished his rods in a spread from 14 wraps at Decoy across to his left tree lined margin putting a spread of house particle, house pellet and Cell boilie in all soaked in Essential Cell liquid fishing slow sinking maize on the hook. Matt only managed one fish this week but what a fish it was being one of the most wanted commons in the lake known as ‘The Jackal’ at 59lb 8oz catching this at sunset on Thursday evening. That was it for Matt but his trip was made.

Over in Tea Party 2 this week we had Rich who was another one to get himself off the mark the first night where he managed 3 fish, a 15lber ‘Skrappy’ at 29lb and ‘Broken Tail’ at 49lb, great start. After putting a spread of bait up the far margin consisting of house maize and boilie Rich was getting most of his bites on peach and pepper dumbbell wafters and was soon into his next fish having ‘The Dutch’ on Tuesday evening quickly after dinner but it slowed down for Rich for a couple of days until he had ‘Philise’ at 22lb on Thursday.

Next door in Tea Party 1 we had Daniel Mitchel who had a frustrating start to his week as he had a lot of fish showing on his spots, but they just didn’t seem to be getting their heads down. Dan then pulled back to 20 wraps and fished spinners with pop ups over house maize and boilie then come Wednesday got his first bite landing ‘The Slapper’ at 28lb 7oz this seemed to give Dan a bit more hope and he then went on to catch another the couple on Thursday having ‘Hillzy’ at 35lb 5oz and ‘Jack’ at 48lb.

Across the pond in Shingles, we had Dec who had fished this swim on a previous trip and was happy to get back in there. Dec started off with what he knew and went for the 18-wrap spot at the dot island fishing over a bed of boilie and was another one to get off the mark early on in the week managing his first fish on the Sunday night where he had a 44lb common which was its first recorded capture and then went on to have an old original at 21lb known as ‘Cleavage’.

In Birches this week we had Giorgio Arcani who started his week in Dunkerque but after seeing a lot of fish show to the left of Birches decided to make the move into Birches. Giorgio started the week fishing pop ups over bait but wanted to try solid bags after hearing of their success, but had never fished them before so on Thursday we got him tying up the rigs and his own bags using the Gigantica bag mix and he went for a Peach and Pepper dumbbell as his hook bait. Fishing this one off his baited spot at 14 wraps towards the corner of Billy’s, he managed his first and sadly his only fish of the week but another great one at that, known as ‘The Decoy’ at 49lb 7oz but also took away a new tactic to take to his home waters, solid bag fishing.

So, if you are ever fishing our lakes here at Gigantica and want to try a new tactic or are unsure about how to tie a certain rig, whether it be solid bags or zig fishing or even just trying to improve your casting, please just ask one of us bailiffs, we are always on hand to help and we love to do so!

Tight Lines,

Greg.
