Keeping It Simple
Another full lake this week with a good mix of new and returning customers.
Only one place to start this week and that is with Ian Ockwell who got ball 10 in the draw and opted to go in Shingles. Starting off slow with the bait, Ian started putting 4 spombs of Cell boilie out over his spot fishing 18 wraps at the dot island and a couple of pouches out over his 9 wrap spot down his left margin and fished Cell bottom baits out the bag. Ian was soon off the mark, having his first fish on the first night in the shape of a 29lb 8oz common now called ‘Golden Syrup’. Ian’s next fish came the next night having ‘Cooky’ at 37lb and was then getting steady bites throughout the week with most of them coming in the early hours around 4 am, having a variety of fish from ‘The Jewel’ at 58lb, ‘Phenomenon’ at 31lb ‘Hazy Maisie’ at 32lb both original scalies as well as ‘Layla’ at 40lb 8oz and ended his week with two on the last night having ‘Ron’s Common’ at 40lb and the newly named ‘Surprise Surprise’ at 31lb. Ian ended his week on 9 fish a great result for how the year has gone so far and we look forward to your next trip.
Next door we had Nick Warburton who came out ball 11 in the draw and chose to go in Double Boards. Nick chose to fish bags this week, a great tactic in the Road Lake, and fished one towards The Poo at 10 wraps, one towards Bacheliers at 15 wraps and one down his right-hand margin at 5 wraps, putting a handful of boilie over each. After losing one the first night, Nick was off the mark on Monday night with the newly named 26lber now known as ‘Hallucination’ and followed this up with a 33lb 4oz common the next night which is still yet to be named. That was all for Nick, but he will be back in May for more.
Down in Turtles we had Jason Tanner who got in his first-choice swim. After a slow start Jason started fishing 23 wraps towards the dot island then chose to move closer to the tree line and into his left-hand margin where he picked up his first fish Monday night having ‘Ella-Rose’ at 29lb 8oz fishing over a bed of house particle and Cell boilie. With the fish still showing along his swim Jason kept at it and ended the week on 5 fish including the newly named ‘Road Warrior’ at 17lb, ‘Mohawk Malia’ at 28lb and managed two more on the final night and a 2017 unnamed stockie at 19lb and 28lb common currently with no name. See you in June.
Ball 1 this week went to Herbie who went in Bacheliers, a swim with a bit of personal sentiment to him so he was more than happy to be in the swim again. Starting off just watching the water the first night and putting singles out, going off what he saw, Herbie settled fishing 16.5 wraps out in a spread in front of him and put a spread of Cell boilie out across his 3 rods, fishing combi rigs with his favourite Banoffee Gigantica Specials over the top. Herbie’s first and only fish this week came Wednesday night where he managed ‘Spod Monkey’ at 32lb. Until next time Herbie!
A slow but improving week on the Road Lake this week, hopefully it continues to improve.
Tight Lines,
Greg.
