Short one this week guys’s, a very tough week indeed! All the carp seem to be in the T1, Turtles, Poo, Goo end of the lake but very tricky to catch. The sun has been hot in the day with temps reaching 22 degrees, but down low at night with a steady temp of 4 degrees, far from ideal. Carp seem to look for sun more than food this time of year and this clearly showed. Not interested one bit, also the pike were spawning up and down the margins and im sure the carp like to gorge themselves on this when they do decide to feed. But none the less a few fish did come out to a few lucky anglers.

First off we have Paul Standing who parked himself in Turtles corner, started of with no fish for a few days but then managed to get into a few, a total of three fish with the biggest being “Scotties Common” at 40lb. Paul was fishing two spots and managed to catch on both, one being the go to 21 wrap spot to the dot island, and the other being a new spot at 9 wraps towards the Road Lake lodge. The fish seem to be moving allot up and down the margin between Turtles and `Shingles so if you’r ever in these swims in the near future its always worth keeping you’r eye out. Back to Paul, Paul was fishing spinner rigs on all three rods with receptor spice hook baits. Matching boilie was also fed but in minimal dosage, just a couple or 3 catapults over a rig would be enough.

Next we have Stuart Saunders over in Billy’s swim, not a favourite swim but a good one and the rite day, Stuart was the man to kick start the week with have a fish known as “5 Bags” at 23lb 12oz on the first night. He also went on to catch another stocky around the upper double mark the following night but that was all for Stuart this week. Again the spinners do the hard work with little yellow pop ups over a bed of maize, hemp and a bit of crushed boilie.

Paul Smith in Shingles managed the one fish for his troubles this week, a fish known as “Bly” at 25lb 4oz, fishing 18 wraps to the dot island with two rods and one roaming. It was the 18 wrapper that got him his bite with a steady feeding approach throughout the week. Little bit of hemp and corn with some boilie but very minimal due to the lack of bites. Same as Paul standing spinners with receptor spice hook baits.

Then finally Adam Hart in T2 managed one off our fresh stockies and he had the pleasure of naming her “King Of Harts”. Adam was fishing to the far margin at 23 wraps in 8ft of water, a great depth for this time of year if you can find it. German rigs for Adam with yellow wafters. Also the baiting, very similar to the rest, very little but just enough for a bite.

As you can see a very tricky week, but thats early spring for you, deep water and bright, hot sun. The lads on the lake were great though, kept their chins up and still had a good time. After all they are on holiday and a shit weeks fishing is better than a good week at work!

Until next time
