Road Lake back with a bang
The time has finally come for us to open the Road Lake again, giving people the chance to catch some of the amazing carp we have swimming around in there.
First up this week we have Bob Bellinger who got himself in Turtles Corner. Bob started the week fishing 2 rods towards his baited spot at 21 wraps towards the dot island and fished his third rod shorter to his left up the tree line. It was a couple of days in when bob got his first fish coming Monday night and what a way to start ‘Mysterio’ at 58lb and Bob’s new PB. Fishing spinners on slow sinking maize both banoffee and IB Bob was baiting up with house maize, hemp, flaked maize and boilie crumb all soaked in fruit smart liquid. Bob went on to break his PB again the next day with one of the lakes favourites ‘The Jackal’ at 62lb 4oz coming again off his 21 wraps spot which produced 4 more fish throughout the week including ‘The Whistler’ at 41lb 8oz and ‘The OG’ at 41lb 7oz.
Next up over in the new swim added to the Road Lake this winter known as The Bund, was son of Bob, Freddie Bellinger. Freddie had a great start and was off the mark within 24 hours with ‘Walkers’ at 40lb 6oz a new PB and was caught 6.5 wraps out towards Decoy on slow sinking maize IB over a bed of house maize crumb boilie along with some chunks and whole. It slowed up for a couple of days then for Freddie that was until he managed back-to-back fifties on Wednesday in the shape of ‘Lovin’ Life’ at 57lb and ‘Big Shack’ at 59lb 8oz both smashing his new PB and great timing meant we could capture a brace shot with his dad. Freddie then rounded the week off with ‘Scatter Scale’ at 27lb 8oz. A great start to the new swim, let’s see what it does for the rest of the season.
Finally, we have Daniel Hogger who went in Decoy this week and targeted the spot towards the bund at 18 wraps and fished open water again at 18 wraps this time towards Dunkerque. Dan was another who managed to get off the mark within his first 24 hours landing a 23lber on the first night but also went on to catch an unnamed mirror at 39lb rounding the week off with a 21lb common. Dan was also using a maize based mix along with some boilie and slow sinking maize as hook bait.
So, a promising start to the new season on the Road Lake and what hopes to be a very eventful year.
