Week Commencing: Sat 19/10/2024
I need the boat…
With the penultimate week of the Road Lake upon us, im sure the fish are hoping for a rest but, as for the anglers they were obviously hoping for some of the big girls to still be on the feed and hopefully end up in their nets. The fishing was far from easy it turns out but by the end of the week there were some good fish out around the lake and is it was an exclusive I think all the boys still enjoyed themselves regardless of how the fishing was.
Kicking things of fish wise we have Steve Ball who fished in Turtles Corner, on arrival the fish were clearly in the Beaches water but come Sunday morning they had moved out and into the tree line of Turtles and T2, to which Steve was able to make the most of it and put some really nice fish on the bank. Steve fished at 21 wraps fanning his rods from the Dot island and into the tree line, he managed bites from all three rods across the area, Steve’s feed mix was mainly made up of Maize but mixed with crushed boilie for added attraction, he used Spinner rigs on a running lead clip set up with various coloured hookbaits with fake maize toppers and this seemed to trip up a few nice carp. Steve managed 14 fish this week including two fifties, the biggest came in the shape of 2 Scale weighing 59lb 8oz, the other 50 was Missing Link which has only been out once this year funnily enough fairly recently from turtles at 21 wraps. Apart from the two fifties Steve seemed to struggle to get stuck into many other good fish, with the biggest of the rest being 39lb and the rest mainly made up of twenties.
Next we have Ashley Stinchombe in Shingles, a swim not known for necessarily producing loads of fish but is known to throw up some good ones and it didn’t disappoint this week. Ash only managed 1 fish this week but it was still one to be happy to go home with. Ash landed Grim Reaper at 47lb 1oz, Ash had Grim Reaper in an area that had been doing well recently which is 17 wraps straight out ahead rather than the usually favoured left hand side, Ash fed Maize and boilie and used a Multi-Hinge rig with a bottom bait Boilie with a yellow topper as the hookbait.
Dale Jeffries in Tea Party 1 banked the most fish this week with 21 fish landed up to 46lb, Dale did seem to be on a patch of smaller fish for whatever reason but he knew that if he kept banking fish and wading through the numbers he’d have a good chance of a better fish, Dale was casting his rods 18 wraps towards Turtles which was clearly putting him close to the main pack of fish being seen off to his right. Many of Dale’s 21 fish were twenties, infact he only landed 3 fish over the 30lb barrier but one did include a PB caught late in the week which was Ringo at 46lb so the persistence came good in the end and it really made up for the numbers of smaller fish that he was catching.
Chris Searle managed a good few fish from Tea Party 2 this week however he did actually win the inside competition with his main competitor being Kelly in The Beach to see who could get me out in the boat to free them of snags the most but other than that Chris still managed to land 8 fish including a nice couple of forties, the biggest being Huckleberry at 44lb 8oz, the other was Not all about the Hat weighing 42lb 8oz, Chris still managed a 39lb 8oz Common called Bronson but once again other than that it seemed to be a case of moving a few twenties out the way first.
Lastly there were a couple of other forties out from the lake the first being from Dave in Bacheliers, who manged Walkers at 41lb fishing 15 wraps towards the Church Spire, and Mark Ford who fished in The Poo and from 10 wraps towards Turtles Corner he saved his week with the Norfolk Common at 40lb 12oz caught using a solid bag with a red wafter and yellow topper as the hookbait.
Until next time for our Final week on Road Lake
