Week Commencing: Sat 31/08/2024

Sausage Surprise

With the Lake fishing well over previous weeks there was always the possibility of the bites slowing up eventually and unfortunately for this weeks group this seemed to happen, the fishing was fairly tricky but everyone gave it their all and a few good fish were still put on the bank.

Kicking things off we have Perry Irving who put himself in the Poo due to the fact that this swim is known for doing big fish and that’s what he was after, it certainly didn’t disappoint. Perry managed to bank 3 fish for his week, 2 of the fish being twenties weighing at 21lb and 25lb, but the real winner was when he managed to land Ron’s at 62lb 8oz, Perry took advantage this week of being able to use ourselves to bait up from the boat, he was feeding quite heavily with a mix of Boilie, House Pellet and House Maize soaked In liquids, he was giving me roughly 15-20kg every other day to drop over his spot on the boat roughly 15 wraps straight out ahead, I was spreading it as instructed over quite a large area to give the fish a chance to move around while picking up food, Ron’s came as Perry’s first fish early on in the week which meant he remained hopeful that another biggen would come along but unfortunately it didn’t quite play out this way.

After this we have Callum Morris who fished in Shingles, this swim has had good recent form and is also another one known for throwing up some good fish even when the lake is being tricky, once again it was the first fish Callum banked which seemed to make his week, with Jack at 48lb and a new PB he was over the moon with how the week began, Callum fished at 15 wraps straight out to an area he’d been noticing signs of carp and spreading Boilies around the vicinity with a spinner rig in amongst them. Once again as the week went on it seemed the fish activity died down and bites became harder to come by, Callum managed one other 30lb Mirror for his stay but going home with a new PB meant he was still happy with how the week went.

Then we have Matt Green who spent his week in Bacheliers, this proved to be a tricky peg this week with plenty of fish seemingly showing in the area but seeming quite reluctant to pick up his hookbait, I know Matt tried varying methods and spots across the week but managed to trip up one fish which happened to also be a new PB, Afterwork at 49lb, Matt spent the first half of his week fishing slightly right at around 16 wraps, one for ease of fishing but also because he had seen several signs of fish in this area, for some reason this never produced and he actually managed to winkle Afterwork from 27 wraps towards the far corner, a known area where the fish seem to hang out, of course he wishes he could have banked a few more but on a slow week and managing a PB its safe to say he went home happy.

Next up we have Lee Keary who fished in Tea Party 2, this was always going to be a good bet for bites, as the fish seemed to keep moving through this area during the hours of darkness, Lee managed to keep his bites coming fairly consistently virtually getting a run every night, unfortunately for some unknown reason he had a few hookpulls but he still managed to bank 2 fish, one smaller weighing 21lb but the highlight from Lee’s week was a 43lb Mirror, Lee was fishing across to the far side using a throwing stick to spread boilies but also by going round to the cut through to bait up from the bank trying to make as little disturbance as possible which was working for him in terms of getting bites but we all wished he just managed to have a better hooked to landed ratio.

For everyone else around the lake the fishing continued to be difficult but there were still fish put on the bank just not ideally the size they was after, Gary mason moved from Decoy to the Goo as the signs of fish just wasn’t there for him up that end of the lake but the move paid off as he banked himself 3 carp up to 34lb, Gary Stacey in Billy’s managed one fish at 20lb from 16 wraps towards the right hand tree line and lastly Mark Fletcher who managed one fish from Tea Party 1 but it happened to be a new PB of 37lb with a fish named Wilbur.

Overall it was still an enjoyable week spent with the anglers but we all wish the fishing was a bit better, but everyone on the lake understood this is how it goes sometimes and spirits stayed high throughout.
