Week Commencing: Sat 24/08/2024
The Punisher
With the Lake fishing well in previous weeks and the weather looking bang on for bites it looked as if it was going to be a good week before it even started, and this seemed to be true from the off with fish coming out all over the pond and virtually everyone managed to get stuck into some fish.
Kicking things off we have Danny Bunce who fished in Dunkerque for the majority of the week, he started off in Tea Party 2 however quickly made the move to Dunkerque due to the fish activity in that area within the first night and also his dad Paul was fishing in the Beach so it meant they could be more social. The move did pay off quickly for Danny as within his first night of making the move he managed to bank himself a 27lb Mirror fishing 17 wraps aiming at the Dot Island. As the week went on Danny didn’t actually manage anymore fish from Dunkerque however he was joining his dad in the Beach for most of the days as the Beach was absolutely stacked full of fish, this paid of for the pair of them as they fished the swim as a team with one baiting from the bund as the other cast a rig right into the middle of the baited area. Danny managed a few fish while in the Beach but the pick of the bunch came in the form of Rons which weighed in at 62lb 8oz, Rons fell to a 12ft Zig cast around 24 wraps over to the bund.
Then we come to Paul Bunce in the Beach who managed 34 fish during his stay using the tactics previously mentioned working together with his son, Pauls preferred tactic however was solid bags using an Iso Fish wafter as the hookbait, out of Pauls 34 fish he managed two fifties, Eye-Q which weighed 51lb 12oz, and also Reincarnated which tipped the scales at 54lb 8oz which were both PB’s for Paul, Other notable captures for Paul were HobNob at 47lb 14oz and also Borris at 40lb 8oz. The rest of Pauls fish were mainly made up of a lot of twenties and a few thirties so Paul and Danny definitely made the most of their draw and the opportunities infront of them.
Next up we have one of our regulars Nick Warburton who tackled Turtles Corner, Nicks approach to the swim was light baiting with Solid Bags fished over the top, he chose to attack the swim this way because it seemed the fish were passing through his swim rather than holding up in that area, during the day he wouldn’t see much fish activity at all but once darkness arrived so did the fish. Nick managed 3 fish fishing at around 20 wraps just to the right of the Dot Island, Nicks fish included two thirties, a 31lb Mirror and also Fleur at 38lb, but the best fish nick landed this week was The Jewel which weighed 56lb on the nose so although it wasn’t the most productive week he’s had on the lake he was happy that he managed at 50.
Then we come to Liam Flynn who fished in The Decoy, Liam actually landed the most fish this week with 36 banked, mainly all of his bites came from the right hand margin fished towards the Bund at around 17 wraps, Liam was casting down the bund and then like Paul and Danny walking round and spooning a mix of House Maize and Boilie over the top as this is the usually the best tactic for this area when the fish are there in big numbers, he started off baiting fairly light and just wasn’t getting the bites he thought he should be, so the main change in his tactics was to increase the bait, this came from a chat with myself as I believe there's so many fish in that zone that I didn’t believe half of his bait was even hitting the bottom so essentially he would be fishing singles, once he upped the bait and was applying a couple of kilos at a time the bites followed suit. Liams tallys included two fifties with the biggest being Diamond Geezer at 55lb but other than the two fifties he managed to bank himself eight forties which included Miss Daisy at 45lb, a 46lb Common, Mia at 45lb, Inky at 40lb, Bomber at 43lb, Long Common at 47lb, Twin Patch at 44lb and also another 45lb Common, so he seemed to be on a good head of large fish and really made the most out of it.
Then we come to Richard Grayling who fished in Double Boards a swim that has had good form recently and Richard managed to keep that going. Richard landed a total of 6 fish for his week which involved the capture of three forties, 46lb, 43lb and 41lb and the other three fish landed were all thirties so overall he had a good average stamp of fish to say the least. Richard caught these from a couple of different spots, some came from his right hand margin at 11.5 wraps and the others from roughly 12 to 15 wraps straight out ahead, he kept a steady amount of bait going in and waited for the night time when the fish left the Beach and headed towards Bacheliers and like clockwork virtually every night he ended up with one on the bank.
Next up we have Simon White who was in Tea Party 2, Simon landed 7 fish this week with the majority unfortunately being fish under 30lb, however he did manage to bank one of the best looking mirrors in the lake with Darky at 45lb which came late in the week so his persistence paid off. Simon was fishing across to the far bank and his main baiting approach was throwing sticking boilies around a general area he was seeing fish and just fishing his hookbait in amongst them, similar to everyone else on this half of the lake it very much seemed to be wait for darkness and the bites will come, most of his fish came around midnight and kept steadily getting bites throughout the week.
Other than that there were a few other fish banked around the lake with Nathan Marshall in Birhces landing 2 fish including a PB of 45lb 8oz with a fish called The Decoy, Marcus Clarke in Tea Party 1 managed 2 fish up to 45lb and lastly Raphael Rauch in Billy’s landed 7 fish up to 39lb from various spots within the swim but mainly coming from 18 wraps to the over hanging tree.
This concludes a good week overall with the majority of the anglers feeling happy with what they’d caught.
Until next time Tight Lines,
Rob
