Week Commencing: Sat 22/06/2024
Ellooo Chicken Nugget
With a large group of regulars on this week there was always a good chance of a few fish being banked as the anglers knew already the areas they wanted to target and the baiting approach they wanted to use before they started fishing and although it was tricky for a few of the anglers, there was still a good number of big fish banked.
First of all we have Stephen Shewry who decided to go in The Decoy a swim that was bound to do some bites as the fish were quite clearly stacked up along the bund, very quickly Stephen realised his best chances of catching was from his right hand margin at around 16 wraps, to make life easier when playing fish and also to try not to spook them out Stephen decided to fish one rod with his other two ready to replace the fishing rod after each bite and this definitely worked for him. The Prize fish Stephen managed to bank this week came in the shape of the Jewel which weighed in at 55lb on the nose, this smashed Stephens current PB so he was over the moon with that. The Baiting approach Stephen was using was a mix of Boilie and House Maize and he was just walking round to the Bund from his swim and spooning the bait in over his spot, he was feeding fairly heavily as there was clearly a large number of fish in the area and he didn’t feel like he was going to over feed them. Stephens total for the week was 19 fish all from fishing one rod, this included 2 other Forties and 3 Thirties, the forties he landed were the Norfolk Common at 41lb and The Oaf at 40lb 12oz which were also bigger than Stephens PB before he arrived at Gigantica so to say he had a good week is an understatement.
Next we have Daniel Nelson who fished in The Beach, like Stephen Daniel picked this swim due to the obvious large numbers of Carp along the bund, using a similar baiting approach to Stephen, Daniel was also feeding from the Bund with also a mixture of Boilie, House Maize and House Pellet, Daniel chose Spinner rigs with pieces of fake maize as hookbaits to mimic his loose feed and this definitely done the trick. Daniel was fishing at around 24 wraps straight out in front of him and actually finished with the highest total of fish banked for the week, being 33 Carp landed so definitely a busy week for Dan. The largest fish of the week for Dan was a lovely Common by the name of Miss Daisy which weighed in at 47lb, other than that Daniel managed one more Forty being a Mirror called Nana’s Mirror which weighed 44lb, other than that unfortunately for Daniel he couldn’t seem to get stuck into anymore of the bigger fish with the majority of his fish being banked under 30lb but this may always happen when you’ve got a huge pod of fish on you as the smaller fish just seem to beat the biggens to the bait a lot of the time.
Last of the big hitters this week was Charlie Stone who fished in Turtles Corner, Charlie fished all three rods at 21 wraps fanning them from the Dot Island and in towards the Tree Line. Charlie landed 7 fish this week which was his target before setting off which included two forties up to 46lb 8oz which was a Common called Scorchio, the other forty was Big Scale which weighed 42lb 8oz, once again Charlie was using a mix of Boilie, house Pellet and House Maize as this seemed to be working around the lake, he included various liquids and dusts and was regularly spombing over his spot to keep the fish grubbing around, so with his target of Seven fish achieved Charlie definitely went home a happy man.
Other than that there were a few fish out from elsewhere around the lake but only one per angler, we have Chris and Mike who were fishing in Dunkerque and Cage which both managed to save a blank by spending a night each in Billy’s, Stuart who fished in Brambles managed one fish early on in the week at 33lb but never managed to have the bites continue unfortunately. Other than that we had a fish produced in Birches which was a mid twenty by Jack Bladen who fished at 18 wraps to the bottom of the bar which also saved his blank.
Til next time
