Week Commencing: Sat 15/06/2024
Funny week this week, started of very hard with the odd fishing coming out around the pond! But from Wednesday onwards it went for 0mph to 100mph within a click of the fingers for two lucky anglers.
First off, we have Dave Reeve in Decoy, with all the fish stacked up on the bund this gave Dave the opportunity to fish for them with one rod hard right at 16 wraps as this gets him closest to the fish as possible. It started of very slow but with fish all over him he struggled to work out why he wasn’t catching them. Wednesday came round and he decided to go in with the all or nothing approach and went straight in with 5kg of maize. Within 20 minutes he was into his first fish, a mid 20 mirror. He went on to feed super heavy for the rest of the week and this got him amongst some rather nice fish. A total of 21 fish with the biggest being “Ron’s” at 64lb 8oz, he also managed “Chamonix” at 41lb 8oz for his second biggest fish. Dave got through a total of 70kg of maize and 40kg of pellet! Spinner rigs on lead clips with size 4 Krank hooks and two peace’s of fake maize got him his bites.
Next we have Steve Hayden fishing in Beach. Again very similar story to Dave’s but this swim acts very well to the spomb, if there in the swim in numbers like they were spombing and keeping active can easy produce a big hit of fish. Steve started fishing at 24 wraps with his rods spread across the bund and feeding from the bund, with no joy and a bit of advice from the bailiff to bring his rods tighter and spomb and keep spombing, he started to catch. Majorty of fish came to a 15ft zig with black foam (while spombing). Steve landed a total of 24 fish with “Jack” being the biggest at 45lb 12oz, but also had the lovely Darky at 45lb 8oz. Plenty of maize and pellet got him his bites.
Mark Cherrett in Dunkerque done well to land 9 fish with the biggest being “Kennys Common” at 41lb. The short spot at 9 wraps hard left towards decoy got him all his bites. Feeding maize and house pellet with spinners and fake maize over the top. A bit of advice comes with this one, his mate Mike next door left a mosquito candle burning while he fell asleep, obviously not on purpose! The candle managed to set his pillow on fire which started to burn the back of his neck. This woke him up and in a panic he tried to put the pillow out with his hand, it all stuck to Mikes hand and he suffered bad burns and a blister the size of his palm. Mike was lucky and determined not to go to hospital he managed to finish his week off. But this happened on the first night, so please we know the mosquitos are bad at the moment, but health comes first and although Mike never left his candle burning on purpose it’s easy to be blasé about a little flame.
Daniel Tillett manged Lady Lucy from T2 at 40lb 4oz. sadly this was the only fish for his week but he sure did try, Dan was fishing 21 wraps to the far margin feeding maize hemp and boilie with spinner rigs over the top with fake corn.
Will Bailey also managed one for his week in T1, a fish known as The Boil at 34lb 14oz. Will was fishing 19 wraps towards turtles for his fish. he did try and go with the heavy feeding approach but with the fish down the other end this didn’t work for him. Spinners with fake maize got him his bite.
Myself I jumped in Poo for a few nights fed with just boilie at 9 wraps off the end of the bar and manged one on my first night, a upper 30 but nothing after that. 15mm Iso boilie with solid bags over the top.
Warmer weather next week with highs of 28 degrees, so let’s see what that brings.
Until next time
