Week Commencing: Sat 27/04/2024

Reggae Reggae Ron

With cooler days and stormy nights it was looking good for bites on the bottom, with fish still stacked up along the bund between The Beach and The Decoy it was always going to be tricky elsewhere on the lake, but with the right approach it was looking good for a few bites to be had all over.

Kicking things off we have Brad Jones, Brad opted for Bachelier’s, a swim that was always likely to do bites from the far margin as fish have seemingly been patrolling that area now for the last few weeks. Brad started off his week strong as by Sunday morning, one night in, he had landed four carp, a couple of lovely twenties and the highlight of the night and also his whole week it turns out with Diamond Geezer which tipped the scales at 57lb 2oz. It was Brads first time in France so therefore his first night on the bank in France so a new PB of 57lb was really good going. Brad was fishing 28.5 wraps to the far corner and walking round and spooning a mix of House Maize and Cell Boilie with his hookbait of choice being a single piece of Slow Sinking Maize which definitely seemed to be working. Unfortunately for Brad the fish seemed to get smaller for him as the week went on but he managed a steady run of fish with a few more thirties thrown in and his final catch total was 9 Carp, but all in all a great week for the lad.

Next up with have Aaron AKA Ron who came high in the draw and went for The Decoy, Ron started off with 2 rods out in open water and one fished 16 wraps down his righthand margin, but very quickly his whole focus became the rod down to his right as it was obvious this was where the fish were holding up. Ron started off with light baiting just to make sure the fish were on him and feeding but once he realised they definitely were it seemed he couldn’t give them enough he started spombing regularly with a mix of Boilie, House Pellet and House Maize and the sound of UB40  which clearly was the right tactic for Ron to use as he finished the week with a massive total of 45 carp banked. The star of the week came in the shape of the Long Common at 55lb 8oz which fell to a Ronnie rig fished on a lead clip with ayellow pop up, the long common was actually part of a brace of 50lb commonswith the other coming in at 52lb, unfortunately we lost this fish on the mat so wasn’t able to get pictures or identify it. Ron finished the week with three fifties including Hobnob which came in at 50lb 8oz, alongside the fifties Ron managed several forties in the shape of Patch at 47lb, Ringo at 44lb, Scotties common 44lb, Holly at 41lb, and he even had Charlie look after his rods while he went to the toilet who managed to bank Cage Fighter at 44lb, not a bad time to be asked to mind the rods.

Next in line we have Mark Lane, who came out first in the draw and picked The Beach, Mark also fished Spinners with Yellow pop ups on the hook at 23.5 wraps to the far bank. Mark finished the week on 10 fish and with a new PB of 48lb 12oz, a lovely Common that goes by the name of Breakfast O’Clock. Mark landed several forties this week including Cooper at 40lb 2oz and Lumpy at 43lb.

The first night for the Anglers seemed to be the most productive around the lake, previously mentioned with Diamond Geezer for Brad, but it also threw up several forties, these fish include Roger in Billy’s who had Twin Patch at 46lb 12oz, Nick in Brambles who managed Lou Lou at 42lb caught using a Solid bag a tactic Nick carried on using from his first week the week before. The Last in the action from the first night carnage was Nigel who fished Tea Party 2, who landed Phil Macrackin at a new PB weight of 45lb, unfortunately this didn’t carry on for Nick or Nigel with these being the only fish they landed that week.

All in all it was a great week filled with laughs and good fish which is all anyone can ask for.
