Spagbowl!

A mixture of Hot sunny weather and high pressure during the day, and anything from extreme electrical storms to flat calm and cold nights meant there was always the possibility of it being a tricky week. Fortunately for two swims in particular this really wasn’t the case.

Starting off we have Andy Norris who came out relatively early in the draw and chose to start in Tea Party 2, a swim that was always likely to get picked early on due to the obvious signs of carp showing in its water while on the walk round. This choice clearly paid off for Andy as by Wednesday morning he had managed to land himself a new P.B and one of the Road Lakes larger residents, Mable at a massive 63lb 14oz. Andy managed 24 fish overall with virtually all of them coming from the far margin left of the dot island. Alongside Mable Andy also managed to land one of the other most sought after Commons in the lake The Wedge at 53lb. Andy also had Big Pec’s at 57lb along with Six 40’s. Andy was using spinner rigs’s with wafter’s, topped with a single peace of fake maize.

Next we have Anthony Thompson who picked Turtles Corner for the same reasons Andy Picked Tea 2, there was obvious fish showing along that tree line. Anthony banked a whopping 25 fish by fishing 21 wraps towards the tree line and the dot island. He attacked the swim with solid bags filled boilie crumb and dust along with frequent baiting with a mix that consisted of mixed boilie and maize. Ant even let his mate Charlie move in with him for the final two nights where he got himself a few fish which included a pristine 49lb Common. The pick of the bunch for Ant was Broken Tail at 51lb 12oz, which meant another P.B and another Friday soaking for the Road Lake boys.

The last angler who managed to bank double figures in terms of carp landed was Jay Gardiner. Jay started off in The Cage due to it being generally one of the more ignored swims but it also hosts a nice tree line that the fish love to hold up in. Unfortunately for Jay he wasn’t seeing the signs of fish he would’ve liked so a move was on the cards, Jay had seen fish in Bachelier’s while having a walk round the lake and quickly moved in. Fishing Blow Back Rigs and a scattering of Mainline Cell boilie with a match the hatch on the hook, at 28 wraps to the far corner Jay bagged himself10 Fish to 32lb 14oz. He sadly didn’t get into any of the biggens but 10 fish banked this time of year certainly isn’t to be sniffed at.

Lastly we have one more PB which came to Tony Norris (Andy’s Brother), who waited it out in Double Boards all week with very little signs of feeding fish in the area. Tony never lost faith and kept feeding his spot consistently and was rewarded on his final morning with a new PB of 48lb a fish called Mia.

I won’t forget to mention Shane in Decoy who landed 3 fish up to around the 30lb mark.

A few anglers struggled as the fish seemed to want to stay in the same one or two areas of the lake and wasn’t showing too many signs of moving off, but that can always happen this time of year.

Overall a great week enjoyed by everyone,

All the best
