Week Commencing: Sat 16/09/2023

BIG STORMS AND BIG CARP.

Back on the road lake this week and with some stormy weather coming our way it certainly stirred on the big ones, 12 anglers this week few new faces and some familiar ones it was all down to the dreaded draw.

Let’s kick the week off with Sam Hardwick, coming mid-way in the draw and plenty of fishing coming from the Birches bank this time of year he was in a good area to smash his PB witch he manged to do so twice this week. Sam fished 18wraps to the usual spots left of Billy’s with all 3 rods baiting up every day just before dinner service and most importantly introducing 5 spomb after every bite he had witch is a massive edge on the Gigantica complex, multi combi rigs with shrimp barrel wafters fished over beds of shrimp 15mm boilies and plenty of corn he managed to land 5 fish for the week including ‘The Wedge’ at 53lb followed on by another PB ‘The Nose’ 59lb 12oz and not forgetting 3 smaller commons to 30lb to finish the week off. All sam's bites coming around midnight meant resting the swim in the day to let the fish flow through his water freely was certainly an edge.

Top rod for the week was Collin madkinley fishing in the Beach, pushing out that little further to the edge of the snags at 23 wraps fishing locked up he had a 14 fish hit for the week using plenty of maize keeping the bait going in on the hour with the little and often approach fishing one zig and the other 2 rods on the deck with spinners with match the hatch wafters to his own SAS boilies he makes himself. Pick off the bunch from the 14 fish was ‘leslie’ at 43lb and then ‘Smudge’ 36lb and the rest of the fishing being in the mid 20 mark.

Lee McGlone was 3rd in the draw and when in the ever famous Turtles Corner, pushing out to 26 wrapsnow we’ve opened the swim up for a more of a distance swim stopping them fish holding on the back of the dot island he just managed the 3 fish to 32lb, fishing accurate with his bait all week with pellet maize and krill boilies using spinners with match the hatch wafters once again tipping with a SSM topper.

James Hewing landed Brambles besides his mate Sam next door in the Birches, new to the complex he took on my advice fishing 18 wraps towards the bonsai tree with 3 rods, going in lightly to start with the bait just 25 spomb for the 1st night using mainline link in 15mm and 10mm with a flicker of corn he did succeed to 2 fish on the opening night with the biggest being 28lb. a few quite days went by before finishing the week on 6 fish with his new PB off course being the biggest ‘Twin Patch’ at 46lb, even in the slow days midweek he still kept a high an carried on grinding away… rig off choice was spinners wafters style with SSM.

Leon was round in Billy’s and no time at all he found a slightly shallower area towards the dot island at 23 wraps he went in with Mainline link 15mm and 10mm heavily flavoured with the new squid smart liquid, baiting up from the back pass meaning there was no spodding to be done it was a easy week ahead. Unfortunately it was just the  1 fish he manged this week 32lb common for his efforts.

I was fortunate enough to get in Bachiliers again this week and knowing the swim really well having spent a lot of time in there recently I took off where I finished a couple weeks previous fishing 28.5 wraps to the head land, Changing my approach to begin with from using mainly maize I started this week of with a good bed off essential cell boilies fishing snow mans over the top with my preferred rig the IQ -D Rig… fish showing over me the 1st night and then waking up in the morning fishless I soon fell back to using straight maize the following night glugged in the pineapple smart liquid. So my 2nd night I manged a 37lb mirror called ‘Autumn’, I carried on with maize for another couple of nights before a weaned them onto 15mm essential cell and then on the Thursday night a managed to land ‘Nailed’ at 48lb 4oz, I nice pattered performed that slowly introducing the boilies as the days goes by it did pay off with landing a better fish.

James Wright had just the one fish this week in the Goo and smashing his PB out the park it was ‘Frankie’at 54lb 4oz. a different rig to what I’m normally used to writing about was the the standard blow back rig with 18lb super natural with a double 10mm cell boilie, 14 wraps to the far margin with all 3 rods fishing maize an cell over the top.

Keith was the smiler off the group this week and never once did his head go down and was a pleasure to bailiff him, 3 fish caught this week from Dunkirk 9 wraps left out the swim towards decoy biggest being 32lbCell and house particle trickled in throughout the week using match the hatch wafters in spinner rigs.

Last but not least was Liam in Decoy, very slow start for Liam but after a few days fine tweaking his rigs and spots he did manged to land a PB and it was ‘TheWedge’ 53lb witch crazily was caught 3 days previous from the swim next door it just shows how much these carp are on the munch.  Following on the day after he did get another bite this time ‘Borris’ at 42lb, fishing 16 wraps down the margin towards the bund with 2 rods feeding little and often from the side with a bit scoop using spinners with SSM and plenty of house maizeLiam got through for this week.

That’s another week drawn to an end and bites coming from all around the lake this week and its really good to see people taking our advice and that advice paying off.

For now all the best,

Joe.
