Week Commencing: Sat 26/08/2023

King off the pond!!

Mawill Ludenbach.

Well my time off soon was over and it was back to Gigantica for my 1st week of the rotor I was on the road lake for this week and with weather forecast looking consistent and low temps and cloudy conditions it was a brilliant mid-to end of the week with a few of our bigger residents making and appearance.

I’m going to kick of the week with Mawill Ludenbachcoming from north Germany Hamburg, Mawill is a salmon fishing guide and travels a big part of the world taking guest out fly fishing so this week was something a little different for him taking him back to his early carp fishing adventures 10 years ago and in no time at all he came out later on in the draw and choice easy and simple fishing out on the bar in front at 14 wraps with only 2 rods and then fishing his 3rd the same distance but up his right hand margin trying out a new spot…. It really wasn’t long before he was hooked into one of his 1st Gigantica Road lake carp and that being ‘Andromeda’ at 41lb 10oz a great way to kick start the week, as night time soon passed he decided to remove his rods every morning and leave his swim to rest all day until evening just to let the fish move around freely with no pressure. Mawill was getting his bait out every day at 4pm just before lunch service with just 20spombs per day then topping up with 5 spombs every night once he got a bite, he caught fish every night and racked up quite an impressive catch rate of bigger fish with 3 PB’s throughout the week, he landed  ‘Little TopLobe’ 45lb ‘Norfolk Common’ 38lb and multiple fish up to 35lb not to forget the king of the pond ‘Ron’s’ at 63lb 12oz!!!! Mawill was jokester of the both lakes this week and kept a massive humour around all off the lads despite the fishing being very hard for a few people he sure kept a smile on everyone’s face, standard snowman rigs acting as wafters with a yellow topper fishing Mainline Link and plenty of house particles throughout his mix used consistently everyday he finished on an impressive 15 fish for the week.

It was nice to have one of my mates on this week Ben Shields  for his 2nd trip to the Road lake and with plenty of fish showing in Turtles on the walk round and the swim being free when it was his turn to pick it that’s where he set his sights for, we have now shut Tea Party 2 so now giving Turtles plenty more water to fish long Ben went for 28 wraps to the Dot island with 2 rods and then tucking his 3rd rod left up the margin still at 28 wraps. Morning came round and it was on the breakfast run when  the bobbin pulled up tight and he was in to the 1st fish of the week.. few moments later he landed ‘Le Flair’ 45lb, choosing to just put single hook baits out the 1st night to not spook of the fish with lots of bait definitely worked and ben chose not to use much bait at all through the week juts little and often here and there using house particles and krill boilie crumb and chops. Monday soon came and with the sun beaming down a 12ft zig with yellow foam amongst a big pack of fish brought an action packed day landing 12 fish in the day and loosing 8 all of just one rod!!! Spombing frequently in the area of the zig was key and the bites kept rolling in, dropping down on to the deck for the night time it was early mornings he was getting a bite again and with plenty of smaller fish coming his way he decided to follow on from mawill and rest the swim in the day time and just aim for that one big fish and in true fashion big fish Thursday came through once again and at 10pm he managed to land ‘Big Shack’ at 58lb 10oz and resulting in a new PB. Sometimes just leaving the swim can pay off as shown with Ben and Mawill, using again snowman’s with yellow toppers are slipping these big carp up. Ben finished the week with a staggering 23 fish with a few good ens along the way ‘Riley’ 46lb 4oz ‘Le Flair’ 45lb ‘Hooters’ 32lb and the ‘Big Shack’ 58lb 8oz.

Dan Caister came out last ball this week and he was a little scrambled in choosing between Shingles and Bachiliers and with the majority of the fish holding up around Turtles/Tea party area he then went on to choose shingles to be that little bit closer to them. After a few days in and ben next door having good success on a zig Dan switched over an there middle of the day had 2 takes 10 minutes apart but sadly lost them both, with the fish now showing around his spot at 17 wrapsto the dot island later in the evening as dusk came round he luck was in again when he had another 2 takes this time landing them both a scrapper 30lb common and then ‘Golden Virgina’ 34lb, a couple slow days then he managed to land ‘Lumpy’ 41lb ‘Le Buster’ 31lb and then saving the best till last on Friday night ‘Reincarnated’ at 60lb smashing his PB and what a way  to end his week on the road lake, zigs used in the day time then dropping down on to the deck for the night show and all his bites landed was using Link 10mm Boilies and house particles IQ-Drigs with match the hatch dumbbell wafters.

Phil Brown was back again for his 2nd trip of the year and this time he was in Tea Party 1 fishing the usual 19 wraps towards Turtles Corner with all 3 rods it was a couple of days before he got amongst them but he finished in 11 fish for the week with plenty of 20s and a couple breaking the 30lb mark and his biggest of the week was ‘Chamonix’ 40lb 11oz, Phil’s usual IQ-Drigswith match the hatch hook baits fish over house particle and krill boilies.

Lauren stansford jumped into the Goo this week and did manage just the 1 fish ‘The Stalker’ 45lb oz, yet again IQ-Drigs with a small snowman presentation over mix particle and Mainline ISO-fish boilies, Lauren fished 14 wraps towards single boards all week spombing 20 a day.

Glen fancied his chances round in Billy’s this week fishing out in front at 20 wraps then solid bags up his right margin to the fallen tree, 5 fish for the week with a 30lb mirror for his biggest prize. House particle and boilies feeding very little to try and get the spot rocking but sadly none of the biggens came his way.

Scott Whiting was in Brambles and with a mindset of fishing for a bite at a time because the swim has been fishing very slow at the moment he did manage a nice common on his 1st night ‘Joe’s common’ 34lb 4oz but unfortunately that was all for the rest of the week, maize and boilie chops fished really tight over the top at 18 wraps out in front all week.

we had a full moon this week and for sure it certainly spurred on some of the bigger fish and despite the fishing still being slow the numbers of fish landed was up massively compared to previous weeks, now we’ve shut TP2 were now seeing fish moving around a lot more so going into next week its prime time for the big fish to start making an appearance so let’s see what the week brings,

but for now

all the best,

Joe.
