Week Commencing: Sat 10/06/2023
King Of Pond Makes An Appearance!
With super-hot temperatures forecast for the whole week and barely a cloud to be seen plus with the bulk of the spawning out of the way on the Road Lake we was looking forward to the carp getting their heads down for a good feed up.
First up we had Billy Freame, who after coming out 1stin the draw picked The Beach to fish from for the week. This was a no brainer with the bulk of the fish just having spawned in the area of ‘the bund’ and they was still holding in the area in numbers, so much so you could have walked across them it was that black with carp.
Setting his stall out towards the bund at 21 wraps and baiting with boilie, maize and pellet it didn’t take to long to start getting amongst some action.
First one in the net was Pughver weighing 38lb 4oz, great fish to get off the mark too. This one, and almost all of his fish was caught on spinner rigs comprising of size 4 Wide Gape hooks and small pink squid pop ups fished heli-style.
Then from Tuesday onwards it all got a bit crazy in The Beach. Fishing 21 wraps towards the corner of the lake and along the tree lined margin he managed 4 bites through the night a couple of smaller fish, a 33lb’er plus king of the pond ‘Hansen’ weighing in at a mega 67lb!
Billy held it like a champion for the photos, it was great to see this one again and at such a good weight after spawning its sure to break that 70lb barrier this year, I’m sure.
The action just got better throughout the week for Billy, everytime I visited his swim I was greeted by at least two nets full and a couple of slings floating around.
Mostly fish in the 20 and 30lb bracket but who cares when you are catching so consistently!
Thursday Billy was treated to a nice 47lb 12oz mirror called ‘HobNob’.
All in all Billy ended up with 37 fish to his name, a great weeks angling and very well angled throughout the whole week.
Well done again, it was a pleasure watching you catch so well.
Ricky Lock also having a good draw slotted into ‘Decoy’ swim, again being as close as he could to the main pack of fish around ‘the bund’.
Ricky fished 16 wraps down his right-hand margin and 18 wraps out in front of him at the bar there. Pretty much all his bites came, not surprisingly, from his right-hand margin area.
Fishing fake Maize of ‘D’ Rigs on helicopter set ups he went on to land 11 fish during the week. Baiting with again boilie, pellet and maize.
Pick of the bunch was ‘The Model’ weighing 47lb 8oz, a fantastic looking mirror.
Ricky had 3 fish over 30lb up to 36lb with the remaining captures being 20lb fish. A slow start to the week for him, but it got better for sure as the week went on with consistent bites during the evenings.
Dean Bradley fished next to his pal Ricky in ‘Brambles’ for a good social throughout the week.
Again a slow start for Dean but he kept plugging away and was rewarded on Wednesday evening with his first fish, a small 22lb’er landed on a slip ‘D’ rig fished with fake maize at 18 wraps on the bar in front of him, baited with boilie, maize and pellet.
Early doors Friday morning a very excited Dean contacted me to say he had a good 50lb’er retained for photos.
Upon getting around to his swim and looking in the retainer we could see it was a very good fish indeed. Well, it wasn’t a 50lb fish in the end, it turned out to be ‘The Reincarnated’ spinning those scales around to 63lb 8oz!! Dean was totally made up by this and held it well for the pictures.
Well done Dean, you didn’t let your head drop and kept at it and it all came good in the end. It can only take one fish to make your weeks fishing and it certainly did for Dean.
Luke Pittaway having come out very late in the draw (last I believe) still ended up to bag himself Tea Party 1 swim.
This was Luke’s first taste of carp fishing in France and hopefully by the end of the week he had taken a lot of knowledge back home with him.
First night action would see Luke catch his new PB and what a great common to do it with, ‘Scorchio’ (a very fitting named fish considering the weather) weighing in at 43lb. Luke was so made up and again like the others held it up like a pro for the pictures.
Luke concentrated his rods at 19 wraps towards the corner of the lake and baited with hemp, maize, pellet and boilie.
A smaller fish graced his net the following day but then all of his bites dried up for the rest of the week. But despite this he was a very happy chap and kept positive throughout.
Rig wise, Luke used spinner rigs fished with fake maize for hook baits.
Well done on your PB and we hope to see you back soon.
Adam Tresler found himself setting up in ‘Turtles’ and fished at 21 wraps towards the island baiting the area with a mixture of hemp, maize, pellet and Cell boilie.
Adam managed to bag himself 3 fish during the week, which was good going considering the bulk of the stock was sat at the other end of the pond during the week. A double figure fish and a couple of 30lb carp made up his capture, but he was still a happy bunny with his captures including a new PB.
Adam fished D Rigs with and caught on a mixture of fake maize and Cell wafters.
Well done Adam.
Jim fishing in the sun trap that is ‘Shingles’ managed just a couple for bites for the week. Similar to Adam, sadly the bulk of the fish was camped up at the opposite end of the pond.
Jim managed one of our grass carp at 29lb 8oz for his first bit of the action and then went on to catch ‘Jaegar’ at 31lb 8oz.
Fish again with a mix of hemp, maize, pellet and Link boilie and match the hatch boilie wafters for hook baits, Jim deployed this at 18 wraps towards the Island.
A tough weeks angling but again like most of the guys this week stayed positive regardless.
Rob Jinks who spent most of the week in ‘The Goo’ swim managed to slip into ‘The Beach’ for the final night, as Billy who was in there headed home on the Friday evening.
Fishing in the same area as Billy was, Rob went onto catch a very nice and clean 30lb common. A blank saver and a PB for him too.
This was taken on a spinner rig fished on a heli-leader with fake maize making up the hook bait.
Well done in the end Rob.
A challenging week for some of the guys who were fishing this week, but a lot of positivity kept a good atmosphere all around.
Well done again on those with PB’s this week and another very well done to Billy who fished solidly from ‘The Beach’.
Until next time……..Tight lines all.
