Week Commencing: Sat 20/05/2023

The Kings first appearance of the year!

We had the pleasure the pleasure of welcoming a lake exclusive this week over on the road lake. Despite the fishing slowing right down they still kept a smile on there faces… all the fish seemed to be stacked up at the Bund in big numbers so I think it’s time they started to do their thing and get spawning well under way.

Brad Williams came out ball 2 and with good advice from me with where the fish activity was  from the previous week I mentioned to him that if I was in the draw today id fancy my chances over in Decoy or the Beach. Advice taken it was Decoy where he set of for with his mate Elliot fishing alongside him in Brambles. As mentioned with the fish looking like there getting ready to spawn it was going to be tough for brad, the fish were constantly showing over his 2 rods at 16 wraps down to his right margin at the bund day and night but he just couldn’t get amongst them despite baiting with mix particle couple of spomb an hour just to try and get them to feed. Soon became Wednesday without a bite when I said to Brad to get a rod out on the Bar at 18 wraps towards the Cage and bait it very little and just fish for a bite at a time. Well it was at 4am Thursday morning when my phone rang with brad on the other end saying “joe I’ve got a fish attached  but I’m snagged!”, so off I went for the boat… soon to be found the fish was still attached, after a few shaken minutes in the boat trying to free the line from a marginal snag brad was soon attached directly back to the fish and that was battle on, back and forth it was taking line before it finally gave in rolled on the surface and finally bradslipped it in the net. It only took me one look at the fish to realise what it was and what a pleasure it were being there with brad to share his glory with his new PB Ron’s at a whopping 64lb. that was the only fish of the week for brad but I don’t think he cared with his amazing capture, Bradfished the week using Mainline Cell and house particle but it was the boilie only spot that Produced the King Ron’s for him with size 4 combi rig one grain of SSM. Brad throwing stacked 50 baits around the spot that slipped his new PB up so all in all good tactics mate and well done top angling.

I myself had the pleasure to jump into to Shingles for week, just fishing the nights I had my work cut out and was fishing blind with nothing to go it was solid bags and very little bait. Sunday night soon passed and I was reeling in Monday morning fishless and of to work I went, after service Monday it was time to get back round and press the repeat button with 3 solid bags at the Dot island 18 wraps with Slip- D-rigs inside with a single grain of SSM spombing over the top with 8 spomb across the 3 bags of house mix particle it were early hours I had my first take and shortly after I had the ‘Cage Fighter’ at 40lb 2oz in my net. That was it for me fish wise for the rest of the week.

With it looking like the motherload of fish was down in the Beach Scott Gillatt pulled ball 2 out and soon had a 12ft zigout straight amongst them at 21 wraps to the tits.after days of frustration fish showing themselves all over him I just don’t think it was meant to be and them have other thing’s on there. Lucky enough he did manage to grab a bite at 20lb common of the deck fishing Spinners on pop up Maize at 21 wrapsScott fish accurate and well all week feeding Mainline Cell boilie and house particle, the just had spawning on their mind it seemed.

With just the 3 fish caught this week it was a frustrating week to say the least for me, knowing that the guys gave it their all and it just didn’t work out for them is a tough one to swallow. Hopefully we get this slow period out the way and it starts to take off again.

But for now all the best guys you kept up the fight all week and all kept smiling.

All the best,

Joe.
