Its All About The Maize!

“The Maize Man” Some call him Joe Mercer, Joe came out 3rd in the draw and jumped at the chance to get in Beach. He soon turned to me and asked for 50kg of maize (To Start With) He didn’t hang about getting his rods out to a spot at 15 wraps towards decoy leaving the favoured 21 wrap spot to rest. This payed of for Joe massively, the first morning Joe managed to catch his first carp “All About The Hat” at 60lb 14oz a new P.B and a new 60lber for the road lake! He carried on feeding maize heavy on that spot and after a couple of 20s and 30s he landed The King Of The Pond “Rons” at 64lb 1oz. Joe Carried on using this method for the rest of the week and managed one more beast “Big Pecks” at 59lb 12oz just shy of a third 60! Joe used 100kg of maize, 20kg of pellet and 30kg of boilie with IQ D Rigs fished over the top, Joe ended on 15 fish for the week.

Regular Phil Brown got into one of his favourite swims Decoy. Phil fished 2 spots in this swim, 14 wraps down is right hand margin towards the bund and 18 wraps Infront towards the Cage. Phil didn’t hang about and kicked of his session with “Eye-Q” at 53lb 4oz on his first morning! Not Long after his 18 wrap spot soon turned to life and manged to land “Nailed” at 47lb 14oz. This spot produced a steady run of fish throughout the week landing some more belters “Fraser” at 43lb and “Holly” a mid 30. Phil fished maize and boili on his spots with IQ D rigs over the top and ended his week on 8 fish.

Another Regular Chris made his way around to Shingles and fished 17 wraps towards the dot island. This end of the lake fished very hard all week but that didn’t stop Chris from catching a couple early on, one known as “Bomb Head” at 44lb 4oz. Chris fished as standard as it comes, boilie only and standard hair rigs with wafters over the top.

Daan Pikeaert got himself into the famous Turtles Corner. Again with this end of the lake fishing very hard Daan was still keen to catch and with a persistent attitude he did, he stuck to his guns and fished 21 wraps straight towards the dot island and this finally payed of with a fish called “Mia” at 44lb 4oz and new P.B to boot. Daan used Mize and boilie with Blow Back rigs over the top.

Scott Badger and his brother Oliver Badger got into The Poo and The Goo both Scott And Oliver fished very similar 12 wraps straight out Infront and used there bait as the feature. They both manged a couple each with Scott’s being the biggest “Grim Reaper” at 44lb. they both fished maize and boilie with combi rigs and wafters over the top.

Russel Symes got into Tea Party 2 Russel fished two spot in here, one at 8 wraps towards the dot island and two rods at 21 wraps towards the far bank. The 8 wrap spot produced one 22lb common and died after, with no more fish for a few days Russel decided to move to a spot at 14 wraps towards Turtles Corner in open water and this produced a P.B “Joes Common” at 36lb 4oz. Russel fished solid bags over maize, pellet and boilie.

Darren Jones started in Double Boards and with no action he decided to move into Billy’s. This move payed off for Darren with his first two fish coming on his first night in Billy’s a 10lb mirror and a 19lb mirror. Darren was fishing 18 wraps straight out and with butting in stacks of maize he manged a P.B a nice 32lb 8oz mirror he was fishing spinner rigs with fake maize over maize to get his bites.

Adam made his way to Bachiliars and the same as Darren after 2 nights with no fish he moved over to Dunqerk. With not catching all week he kept the maize going in and on his final night he was rewarded with “Scorchio” at 44lb 12oz. Adam fished at 14wraps towards T2 with maize and spinners over the top.

The lads manged to end on 30 fish between them but Its been a tough week for them this week with a change in weather from being scorching hot to storms, big winds and heavy rain. With autumn just around the corner who knows what next week will bring.
