Week Commencing: Sat 27/08/2022

Its not how you start it’s how you finish!

With very high pressure and very low oxygen levels this week, was the road lake finally going to slow down?

12 Anglers joined us this week to find out.

Large numbers of fish had been in front of The Beach and Decoy for the last 2 weeks producing great sport for the anglers in there, but this didn’t seem to be the case this week.

First off, the mark was Daniel Gray in Double boards choosing to fish two separate marks of 7.5 wraps to his right and 11.5 towards the Poo in open water.

A move which paid off very well in the form of 14 fish including “Castro” at 42lb 8oz “Frankie” at 54lb 7oz and smashing his PB with “Two tone” at a colossal 57lb well done mate.

A mixture of solid bags and Slow sinking maize fished on Combis fished over house maize and pellet were tactics of choice.

Morgan Bacon next door in Shingles was also into the action straight away too deploying the same tactics as Daniel and fishing 16 wraps towards the Dot island, quickly racking up 10 fish up to 44lb 9oz, before things quietened down, leading him to a move Bachilliers a move which paid off with another 7 road lake carp up to mid 30s, good skills mate.

Ash Hegarty fishing in Billy’s managed 12 fish for his efforts his biggest being 44lb, solid bags over large amounts of corn and house pellets in open water at 18 wraps, not bad at all considering it was a bit slow in there to start.

Brother Nigel Hegarty fishing in Dunkerque also had a slow start catching 4 fish up to 35lb, but like we say its how you finish and with constant application of bait and a switch to boilie and pellet spomb mix the big girls moved in, coming in the form of “Afterwork” at 50lb 10oz and “2 scale” at 55lb 4oz.

A new PB and a job well done mucka!

Next on the list was Nigel Clarke fishing in The Poo.

A little and often approach was going to be applied here with the spomb introducing boilie and maize, using a mixture of wafters and slow sinking maize on Spinner rigs over the top, which produced 4 fish up to 48lb 2oz giving big smiles all around especially when he fell in (Tom Daley eat your heart out) he was still smiling though proper chap.

Mick Tong fishing next door in The Goo was smiles all around all week especially after hearing of his mates Nigel’s antics in the water and managed 2 fish up to 25lb 8oz again fishing spinners with slow sinking maize.

Matthew Pole moved into Shingles after Morgan moved out after having 4 quiet nights in birches and had 3 fish up to 51lb 12oz, smashing his PB twice fishing yellow pop ups on Spinner rigs and adapting his baiting approach to little and often, again fishing the 16 wraps spot a great move that paid off well done mate.

One fella who stuck to his guns and let the fish move in on him was Rhys Evans fishing in Tea Party 1, leaving it until Thursday before catching.

Steady application of boilie, maize and pellet was stepped up towards the end of the week something that clearly made the difference to the session.

Finishing with 10 fish up to 41lb 12oz.

Yellow tipped orange wafters fished on Combi rigs at 16 wraps towards turtles doing the do.

Daniel Gilbert fishing out of Turtles also had to be patient, again waiting for the fish to move in on him and to start feeding.

Managing to finish the session with 6 fish up to 44lb 2oz, spinners with cell and link wafters getting the bites he fished these over link boilie and maize at 21 wraps to the three Christmas trees.

Not quite as busy as the prior weeks but nice to see some of the lesser fancied swims doing good numbers of bites.

Upping the amount of bait put in at the end of the week definitely made the difference.

Definitely something to note for those of you coming out soon, these fish like good quality bait and plenty of it.

Until next time

Paul
