Week of smashing PBs

Dave Maunders went into Turtles and kick started his session with a nice 25lb scaley called Mr Chow on the Saturday evening after dinner. The bite came after he baited with 3kg of maize, pellet and link doused in the smart fish liquid. Dave set his stalls out fishing 21 wraps towards the dot island and fanned his rods out from the margin outwards. Dave lost a couple fish through the week but ended up with 3 fish. Rig choice being link popups on spinner rigs.

Ian Treddinick being far down in the draw ended up in Goo, Fishing at 12 wraps straight out. He managed to get a bite in the early hours of Sunday morning being a Twin Patch at 44lb 4oz and a new PB. Ian caught this over 5kg of maize, pellet and boilie. Rig choice being spinners with a cell snowman. Unfortunately he was un-abled to entice another bite.

Lee Greaves set out in Tea Party 1 after following our advice he fished at 16 wraps to the right of Turtles corner, despite tired from the journey he pushed through and baited with 5kg on the Saturday evening with maize and cell doused in smart liquid. The following morning at first light revealed he had 2 fish with the first one being 39lb called The Sargent and a new PB but the second fish was much bigger… one of the A team called the Jackle at 57lb12oz smashing his PB again! What a mega start to the trip! Although he kept pushing throughout the week baiting up 5kg a day he only managed to get 1 more fish. Lee fished the ever-faithful solid bags with the washed-out pastel barrel wafters. A tactic not to ignore!

Nick Sherred fished in Birches, fishing at 18 wraps he managed to nick one early in the week being one of the lakes stockies, unfortunately he was unable to get any more bites but despite still had a good week. Nick fished spinners with yellow pop ups.

Luke Benham set out for an easy week fishing in Brambles, simple approach fishing the 18-wrap spot at the top of the shelf. Consistent baiting of link and cell with maize kept bites throughout the week. Luke had bites daily but Sunday mid-day he was rewarded with one of the Lakes big units at 57lb 12oz in form of BIG MAC! This Smashed his PB. Other than this he ended up with 8 fish in total up to 28lb 12oz. Luke kept things simple rig wise fishing blow backs with a cell or link bottom bait with a maize topper. Just goes to show simple is better sometimes.

Callum Riley fished Dunkerque, managed to get amongst a few fish throughout the week up to 38lb. He caught fishing at 16 wraps towards the dot island fishing spinner rigs with pop up fake maize. Callum baited the spot consistently with 5kg of Cell, pellet and maize.

Ben Morgan “The Welsh Wizard recently arrived as a temp bailiff and wasted no time, jumping in Bacheliers, plumbed up at 28.5 wraps to the bottom of the far shelf, this helped him bait effectively with a spoon from the far bank. He decided not to fish the first two nights and just pre baited with a 50/50 mix of 10kg maize and pellet each day. After feeding 10kg of the same mix midday on Monday he decided to put his rods out in the evening with 5kg to top up over his rods, with no more than an hour the left-hand rod was away with the biggest fish in the lake “Ron’s” at a spawned out weight 62lb 4oz. He carried on using the same method for the next few nights which produced a steady run of fish each evening and ended the week on 11 fish. He fished a Heli Safe with a 4.5inch boom to a spinner rig with 2 peace’s of pop-up maize with the bead pushed up 8 inches.

Liam Bran went into the Beach and fished 18 wraps towards the bung and 16 wraps towards decoy. Liam fished constantly throughout the week nicking a fish each morning with the odd day with 2 or 3 fish. Tuesday, he pushed further out fishing 20 wraps towards the bung to get closer to the showing fish. On Thursday this paid off with a new PB in the form of inky at 39lb 8oz. Baiting each day with 5kg of boilie, maize and pellet and fishing standard hair rigs over the top. Chopping and changing hook baits throughout the week kept bites coming for Liam catching on straight bottom baits, fake baits and snowman. Ending the week with 8 fish and a new pb.

Chris Powell fished in Tea party 2, started off the week fishing left of the dot island at 14 wraps, managing to nick a low 20 on Monday morning. Seeing fish further along the marginal shelf he pushed forward and went to the 20 wraps spot, walking round before dinner to bait up by hand with 5-10kg of maize and boilie a day. Despite his effort he managed to end the week on 3 fish unfortunately all of them are the lakes small newest residents.  Chris caught his fish on spinner rigs baited with fake corn.

Mark Greenwood got last choice and ended up in Shingles. He had a game plan from the start that was to fish short and fish with lots of bait. By the end of the week mark baited with 80kg of maize and boilie on a 10 wraps spot. Managing to get a 30lb 8oz common which was a new PB. Mark fished with IQD rigs with manilla wafter with an orange topper.

Antony Mcgough had his plan set and got the swim he wanted in the form of Decoy and wasted no time in getting sorted out. Although a slow start to the week by Wednesday he managed a 28lb common at 10pm after upping the bait and putting in 8kg of boilie and maize. Thursday night a storm came in and this triggered the fish in Antony swim resulting in 2 double takes! One at midnight resulting in 2 scrapper 30s and then 8am on Friday morning resulting in a 33lb common and a 43lb 12oz mirror known as 4 Scale. This was a new PB! The winning tactic was IQD rigs fished with wafters at 16 wraps towards cage or 16 wraps towards the bung.

With 7 out of 12 anglers smashing they PBs it was overall a good week on the road with 41 fish out. Some of the larger residents starting to make an apperiance be good to see how it progresses within the next few weeks!
