Week Commencing: Sat 23/07/2022
With the warm weather and the fishing being slow the previous week, it would be interesting to see how this week panned out, with a change of wind direction coming mid-week along with some cooler temperatures it looked good for a few bites on the cards! With the start of the summer holidays and the boarder control at the tunnel being a pain in the arse, there was a few late delays, but we got there in the end!
Gareth Kitchener showed up late just as we were bringing dinner round in fact! so between him and Ady they had last choice of swims. Gareth ended up in the Beach after a slow start he ended up being top rod for the week with 21 fish! It wasn’t until Tuesday he had his first bite, this coincided with the change in wind direction pushing into the beach and the fish moving on the fresh wind. Gareth started the week baiting with DNA S7 with a mixture of maize and pellet before switching to his ole faithful The Source. Gareth baited with 6kg a day then topping up with 5/10 spombs after every fish. On Wednesday night this proved the winning tactic as he landed 6 fish through the night deciding to stop spombing and reeling in to get a few hours’ sleep. By the end of the week Gareth had a nice selection of road lake stunners under his belt, with the biggest being “Swaleys mirror” at 46lb. He also had Cracker at 42lb8oz and Andy’s Common at 40lb to name a few. Gareth fished at 21 wraps towards the 3 tits and then 16wraps towards decoy. Most the fish came from the 21 wrap spot with a couple of the bigger fish coming of the 16 wrap spot. Rig choice was blow backs with source bottom baits with yellow or pink toppers as a snowman.
Tony Kruszyski picked Turtles as his home for the week, with the fish showing in front of him on the Saturday night he wasted no time in flicking single hook baits at them whilst setting up base camp for him and his misses for the week. Come the morning this tactic paid off with a new PB in form of Big Scale at 40lb! He continued this approach over the next couple days and managed to nick 3 more fish doing this tactic. On the Tuesday after a bit of encouragement to get more out of his peg, he put some bait in at 18 wraps towards the dot island. That night he had 6 takes landing 4 fish up to 36lb 8oz this fish being Golden Virginia. The fish moved of Tony and that was all the action he had that week. His bait choice was maize and cell with the rig choice being spinner rigs with a cell bottom bait. Just shows you don’t need to complicate things.
Danny jumped into Tea Party 2, set up a game plan of fishing 21 wraps to the far margin left of the dot island. He consistently picked up fish most nights although on Tuesday after dinner it kicked off landing 3 fish within an hour of being back up to 38lb 12oz. Towards the end of the week it dried up for Danny although ending the week with a respectful 8 fish. His baiting approach was to walk round and bait up by hand with a mixture of particle mix and cell boilie. Baiting with 6-10kg a day.
Gareth Vaughan fished in Brambles, following the advice he jumped straight onto the 18-wrap spot straight out and stuck to his spots consistently baiting each day with 5kg of maize and cell and link boilie. Took a few days for the fish to show up getting his first bite on Tuesday morning. Wasn’t until Wednesday night at 11pm one of the larger residents of the road lake showed up in form of Big Bob at 50lb. Following evening he landed Bullwinkle at 37lb12oz. Ending the week with 6 fish and the biggest fish of the week. Gareth rig approach was simple small yellow pop ups on spinner rigs.
Antony Massacrier set stalls out in Billy’s, struggling at the beginning of the week after seeing fish long, a change of approach was on the cards. He fished 17 wraps straight out and baited with cell and maize 4kg a day. Nicking the odd fish but didn’t get into the larger residents. Wasn’t until Friday he gave it all or nothing spodding every hour throughout the day before dinner putting in up to 8kg of bait and then after dinner putting in another 3kg. This resulted in restless night with 6 takes but unfortunately only landing 2 fish with one of them being a 31lb common. Rig wise was D rigs with Fake corn done the damage for Antony after playing about with different hookbaits and rigs.
Charles Taylor ended up in shingles, with it being his first time in France young Charles was keen to get amongst the fish. After a tuition on Sunday evening, the following morning he was rewarded with his first French carp all be it 18lb it was an achievement non the less! During the mad feeding spell on Tuesday after dinner Charles managed Neenie at 24lb 14oz which is a top weight for this fish and a new Pb for Charles. Charles caught fishing 16 wraps towards the dot island and found D rigs with fake corn to be the winning tactic, baiting with 2kilo of boilie and maize a day.
Tony Perry in Goo managed only managed two fish but with one being a 48ln 6oz grass carp and a new Personal best he was made up for the week. Fishing 10 wraps out with a cell snowman with a yellow topper done the damage. Baiting heavily with maize with a abit of boilie added to the mix.
Ash Perry in the Poo had a slow week managing 1 fish throughout the week with 2 lost all hopes were fading but on Saturday morning he had Broken tail in the net at 49lb2oz, just ounces of his PB! Unlucky there but still a mega carp to end the week on! Ash approach to the capture of Broken Tail was a mesh bag of boilie crumb with a snowman hook bait with krill active and a cell pop up fished 10 wraps down the margin towards the dead tree.
Tom Bird fished in Bacheliers, his approach was to fish two spots along the marginal shelf with one being 18 wraps past the big tree and the other 28 wraps straight out to the far bank. Although failed to get amongst the larger resident’s tom ended the week with 4 fish. Catching on cell bottom baits on a blow back rig and baiting with maize and cell boilie baiting up to 7kg a day.
Ady James showed up late with Gareth and settled into Dunkerque. Unfortunately, due to his efforts he only managed 1 of the lakes stockys in-between being banks man for Gareth next door in the beach. Ady fished spinner rigs with pop up maize over 5kg of maize and boilie a day.
Overall a good week with 49 fish out, hopefully see the fish start packing on some weight again after the spawning loses.
Until next week
