Bailiff Comments
Week Commencing: Sat 09/04/2022
Lots of laughs and plenty of memories!
With the anticipation of Ian’s group coming back to the Road lake I was really excited as the last time they were here in 2019 it was a mega mega week! When the lads turned up they were raring to get going, the walk round and draw commenced with lots of comments from the resident joker for the week! Laughing the whole way around until it was time for the dreaded draw, even Ian went quiet for that bit!!
Father and son team, Barry and Oliver Jones, ended up fishing Tea Party 1 + 2 and were buzzing to get going! Barry opted for T2 and fished all 3 rods at 21 wraps towards the corner of Turtles swim! Fishing Spinner rigs with cherry virus and pink pop ups! He landed 15 fish for the week!! Some of the bigger ones included Elevenareef at 43lb 12oz and After Work at 47lb 12oz!! Barry kept the bait going in steadily all week using Eclipse baits boilies and the house maize! The more maize he put in the quicker the bites came! Oliver worked hard all week and managed to get a bite on the last morning but unfortunately it dropped off at the net!! Horrible but means he has to come back next time with a score to settle that’s for sure!!
Next up we have Neil Budd who after a successful trip in Decoy last time out fancied his chances down the other end of the lake opting for the ever popular Turtles Corner! Neil concentrated all 3 rods at 21 wraps towards the dot island, fishing all 3 rods on spinner rigs with SSM as the hookbait! He went on to land 7 fish for the week with Mr Massive being the biggest at 43lb! Neil baited with boilie and the house maize, putting 5kg a day out with 15 spombs after each fish! His lad Joe Budd started in Shingles and after landing a mega 29lb common from 18 wraps towards the dot island things went quiet for him, so he dropped into dads swim for the last couple of nights and went on to land a couple of fish to 27lb, good stuff boys!
Stefan Reed up next who had a serious score to settle after his previous visit to the Road Lake finished in a blank! Dropping into Double Boards he was full of confidence and raring to get going! Deciding to concentrate 2 rods at 14 wraps towards Bachelliers and 1 rod down his right margin. Fishing spinner rigs with double stacked fake corn and baiting with house maize, hemp, crushed Mainline Cell and Essential Cell and some salt thrown into the mix. Stef was resting his swim for a few hours a day and baiting with no rods in the water which I think helped get the fish feeding confidently on his spot! Stef managed to smash his P.B twice in the week with a 41lb 4oz mirror called Jack and a mega 46lb common that goes by the name of “Nailed” he also landed 3 more fish which made up for the previous trips blank! Good angling mate well done!
Graham “LC” Ward dropped in Bachelliers and fished at 18 wraps towards his left margin, baiting with a few KG of house maize per day he managed 1 fish for the week and it was a goodun! 40lber that goes by the name of “Not All About The Hat”! The fish was snared on a spinner rig with SSM for the hook bait! Nice one!
Phil Robinson dropped into Decoy and it fished hard but he managed to winkle one of the stockies out to save a blank! Definitely a score to settle next time mate!
A special mention must go out to Mr. Ian Childs who even though the fishing was hard going for him, he kept everyone laughing and smiling with his inappropriate banter and legendary jokes. It was an absolute pleasure to share the bank with him for a few nights social in the Poo and the Goo! One of the good ones mate!
Looking forward to seeing you all again soon guys!
Until then,
Tight lines,
Steve
