Big South Westerly’s = Feeding spell

Typical Spring weather greeted us, warm days and cold nights with some big SW winds forecast for the later stages of the week which got the old fishing senses tingling that’s for sure!... Everyone was eager to get cracking!

Martin James fancied a bit of Tea Party 2 for the week and in a session where the weather looked favourable in the later stages it was certainly true to the forecast as it took a few days for the fish to get their heads down but once they did Martin didn’t struggle getting amongst some whackers! Originally Martin was fishing crushed whole and chopped boilies with a small amount of maize through his mix but after having a play with a solid bag on one rod he decided to bait heavy with just maize and switched all his hook baits over to match the hatch Slow Sinking Maize! This switch paid dividends as from Wednesday he started to catch consistently! Landing 12 fish for the week including “Splash” at its first time over the 40lb mark, Norfolk Common at 45lb, Ruby Murray at 43lb and Bomber at 42lb! Not bad considering his first bite wasn’t until Wednesday afternoon! The fish are certainly switched onto the maize now and don’t seem massively interested in whole boilies just yet. Martin fished all 3 rods at 21 wraps towards the corner of Turtles margin!

Next up we have Richard Skardon who came out high in the draw and didn’t hesitate in dropping into the ever producing “Turtles Corner”…it took a little bit of time to get into the swing of things but it all came good mid week when a quick flurry of bites produced a 2 x 20lbers and the icing on the cake “Broken Tail” at 48lb!!! Mega result and a new P.B to boot! Richard went on to land 6 fish for the week, fishing at 22 wraps towards the dot island he fished Slow Sinking Maize on stiff hinge rigs over the top of a mix of Gigantica maize, maple nut cream 12mm and 15mm mixed!

Karl Castly started his week off in Decoy and didn’t mess around getting amongst the fish quickly landing a few 20lbers in his first 48 hours fishing solid bags down towards the bund at 14.5 wraps. Not being one to sit around when things aren’t happening and seeing the big weather change coming in, a quick after dinner move round into Double Boards for the last 48 hours paid off as he landed 3 more fish fishing bags at just over 12 wraps towards the big tree next to Bachelliers. Karl didn’t get amongst any of the bigguns this week but he certainly worked hard for his bites!

Sam Hood dropped into Tea Party 1 and had to wait until last knocking Saturday morning for his first bite and what a fish it was! Minimum wage at 41lb 12oz saving a blank for Sam, after watching Martin next door getting bites on big beds of maize he upped the feeding later in the week and managed to get in on the action at the last minute! Fishing 18 wraps towards Turtles with SSM Spinner rigs over the top of his baited spot.

Billys and Beach produced some smaller stockies throughout the week and that was the end of this weeks trip! Really enjoyed having the lads on and looking forward to catching up next time!

Weather is still all over the place, we really need some consistent weather to get these fished switched onto the fact that they need to start getting their heads down! Fingers crossed next week will be the week…

Until then,

Tight lines,

Steve
