Week Commencing: Sat 26/02/2022

What’s your Eye-Q??????

With the second week of the Road Lake being booked out for an exclusive and some quality fish being caught the previous week, who knew what to expect?

Especially with one of kordas top coaches Rob burgess attending the trip.

That however is not where I’m going to start, I am going to start with a tale about a lovely young couple Daniel Humphrey and Jade Farrell.

With Jade being quite new to carp fishing and a little inexperienced (so she said), they decided to double up in The Beach.

Daniel decided on fishing towards the bund at 21 wraps using loops and booms with size 4 Klor hooks and I.B slow sinking maize.

It wasn’t long before his first take kicking off with a 19lb mirror, swiftly followed by Big scale at 41lb 12oz.

From there with steady application of sweetcorn and maize and accurate fishing, Dan managed another 19 fish including Blade at 49lb, Huckleberry at 44lb 4oz and with the biggest being Eye-Q at a back aching 53lb (well held buddy).

Not to be outdone Jade kicked her campaign off with an 18lb mirror and swiftly followed with her new PB the lovely Snooki at 42lb 8oz, she then smashed it again with Fraser at 46lb 8oz and finished her forty trio with the Grim Reaper at 46lb 4oz, with a lot of good thirties and twenties to boot, giving them a total tally of 26 road lake carp (good skills guys).

Next up to bag 1 was Rob Burgess, who made the move from Turtles to Decoy after seeing plenty of fish show there.

Rob was soon into fish, fishing solid bags with squid infused slow sinking maize on the hair, kicking off with 4 small carp up to 24lb 8oz.

Rob was also filming for Carp fix whilst here so was working extra hard to get a “big un” and solid effort rewarded him in the shape of “Scorchio”at 40lb 8oz.

He followed this up another 4 carp up to 24lb.Not bad for a quick 4-day trip.

Next to get a mention is James Burge who was also fishing a 4 day trip, after initially starting in, Bachilliers a quick move to showing fish in Double boards soon had the alarms singing with the end result being seven carp up to 26lb.James was also fishing solid bags with I.B slow sinking maize as hook bait.

A move from BILLYS to Decoy for Ricky Smith proved a smart move with only a 19lb common to show for his efforts in there, he was keen to get into some of the bigger residents and was rewarded shortly after in the form of “The box mirror” at 52lb 8oz.Casting to showing fish using double pop up corn on spinner rigs proving that watching the water at this time of year is super important.

Last but not least was event organiser Steve Middleton who after 2 nights in “the poo” with nothing to show for his efforts, made a move down to showing fish in “Bachilliers”.

A move which paid off in the form of 7 smaller carp up to 19lb.

It would seem the deciding factor of catching this week was not being afraid to move, keeping things super accurate and fishing with methods and baits that have been doing well so far and that you are confident in. With constant changing pressure, winds and weather at this time of the year, watching the water and letting the fish tell you where they are is invaluable.

Until next time,

Tight lines

Paul
