Bailiff Comments

Week Commencing: Sat 22/09/2018

Well its that time of year again when the Korda staff descend on Gigantica for their annual trip. Everybody met at Korda HQ at silly o’clock on Saturday morning ready to get the Happy bus to Gigantica, after a long hard trip they arrived, and they were all keen to get going. So Buzz the Gigantica Bailiff took them on a lap of the lake, giving them all the latest information on recent captures, bait application, rigs etc. The dreaded draw was next to decided who was going where.

Rhys Kennington went into Tea Party 1, he had two rods at 18 wraps in-line with Turtles Corner and his third rod was cast just to the left of the swim at 13.5 wraps. Rhys baited each area with a couple kilos of boilies. It didn’t take long before he was into his first fish of the trip a 44lb8oz mirror named “Stubby” which was a new PB for Rhys, this fell to a IQ-D rig with a Mainline Link boilie, which had been Glugged in the Mainline Link boilie dip. The next morning, he was in again this time with “Cooky” at 43lb. On Wednesday afternoon he lands a 41lb common which was another new forty for the Road lake, so he got to name it and he called it “Krack off”. On the last morning he goes and lands a 46lb8oz mirror which was another new PB for Rhys what a week smashing his PB 3 times.

Richard petal Decided to go into Bacheliers, after having a plumb around with his marker rod he found a nice area at 21 wraps along the left hand margin, where he decided to put two of his rods, and the other area was at 19 wraps in-line with the Church which you can see on the far bank. Petal baited each area with a couple kilos of boilies. In the early hours of Sunday morning he caught two carp, the first was a 42lb7oz Grass carp which fell to a Ronnie Rig with a Northern Special Pop up, the other carp he landed was “Not all about the Hat” which went 41lb8oz this also came on a Ronnie Rig but his hook bait was a Mainline Baits Link pop up. The next morning, he was in again this time with a 35lb12oz mirror.

Keith Rayment went into Billys, he decided to fish one rod at 15 wraps just of the right hand margin the other two rods were cast at 21 wraps in-line the Tea party 2, he baited both areas with a few kilos of Mainline Baits link boilies. It didn’t take long before he was into his first fish of the session a 27lb mirror, not long after that he goes and lands a 39lb14oz mirror known as

“Phil Macrackin”, both of these carp fell to a Combi Rig with a Mainline Baits Link bottom bait which was glugged in the link boilie dip and a crushed up link boilie PVA stick. Keith went on to have a 35lb mirror and a couple of 20’s.

Martin Cocks went into Turtles Corner, he was fishing all three rods at 18 wraps in-line with the right hand side of the Island, he baited the area Saturday afternoon with around 4kg Mainline Baits link Boilies, the wind was hacking straight towards him and the carp were showing straight away over his area. Sunday afternoon Martin was into his first fish of the session a nice 28lb mirror which turned out to be a new PB, as his pervious PB was only 20lb, Martin has only been carp fishing a few years, going from match fishing to carp fishing, I’m sure he will beat his PB a few more times before the weeks out. He was using an IQ-D rig with a Mainline Baits Link wafter as his hook bait. On Monday afternoon he landed a couple of nice thirty’s. Martin went on to have 34lb8oz common, a 36lb8oz mirror which was an unnamed fish, so he decided to call it “Millie's Mirror” after his daughter, and a new PB common which went 37lb8oz. What a week he had smashing his PB many times over.

Mike Isted went into Decoy, he found a nice hard area at 22 wraps straight out in front of his swim, so he decided to put two rods on that area, and the other rod was cast up to the bund at 16 wraps, Mike baited each area with 5kg of Mainline Link boilies. The next morning, he was into his first fish of the trip and what a fish to have “Big Mac” at 56lb4oz this fell to a KD Rig with a Mainline Link Bottom Bait which was tipped with an Indian Spice pop up. He finished the week with a 30lb mirror.

Andy Mison went into Birches, after having a good plumb around with his marker rod he found a nice gravely area at 14 wraps just to the left of the swim where he decided to have two rods, his third rod was cast at 18 wraps just to the right of Billys Swim. Andy baited both areas with 5kg of Mainline Baits Iso Fruit Boilies, On Monday morning Andy was into his first fish of the week a cracking 42lb common known as “Breakfast O’clock” this fell to an IQ-D Rig with a Iso Fruit bottom bait which was tipped with a Iso Fruit pop up.

Gary Stone was set up in Shingles, he went on the advice of the bailiff and fish all three rods at 18 wraps in-line with the island, as the angler had eleven carp to 38lb8oz the week before. Gary started off baiting the area with 5kg mix of Mainline Baits Cell and Link boilies. It wasn’t until Tuesday Morning that Gary had his first carp of the week and it was well worth the wait, he lands “The Wedge” at 47lb4oz, this fell to a Ronnie Rig with a Northern Special pop up as his hook bait. This gave Gary the confidence he needed, and the bait is the key on the Road lake you need a good amount of bait over your area to get the fish interested and baiting a few times a day and after every fish can get you more bites for sure. Gary went on to have a 38lb12oz mirror and a few 20’s.

James Wolff went into Dunkerque, he started of fishing all three rods at 14 wraps towards the island and he baited the area with 5kg boilies, after a few days of no action he went down to the stalking swim and spent the afternoon in there, it didn’t take long before he was into a fish a nice 31lb14oz mirror, and a great confident boost too. Wolffe decided to move into Double Boards for the last couple days as there were fish showing in there, he decided to fish all three rods close in as the carp were showing at that range, the next morning he landed a 28lb mirror this fell to an IQ-D rig with a Gigantica Banoffee wafter.

John Wilkes went into The Beach, he had a good plumb around with his marker rod and found a nice area just of the Bund at 23 wraps were he decided to have all three rods. John baiting the area with 5kg of Mainline Link boilies. After a few days of no action he went round to the stalking swim to see if he could winkle one out. It didn’t take long before he was into a nice little 18lb common. The next morning, he decided to have a move into Billys, as Keith moved out and went round to The Goo. John decided to fish the same spots as Keith was fishing for the last couple nights but unfortunately he never had any bites.

Ryan shaw Set up in The Poo, he decided to fish two rods at 14 wraps in-line with Turtles and his other rod was cast in-line with Double boards, he baited each area with a few kilos of bolies. After no action and no signs of any fish Rhys asked if he wanted to have a few days in Tea party 1 so Ryan jumped at the chance and moved straight in there, he fished the same area as Rhys 18 wraps in-line with Turtles, and Baited the area with 5kg of Mainline Link boilies. The next morning, he was into his first fish of the Week a nice 20lb common, this fell to an IQ-D Rig with a mainline Link wafter as his hook bait.

Well that’s another week over, the weather is changing leaves are falling of the trees and winter will soon be here…
