Week Commencing: Sat 30/09/2017

Autumn is well and truly here; the nights have been dropping down to a rather chilly 8 degrees this week with the daytime temperatures remaining at around 14 Degrees. The weather for the week was rather unsettled with plenty of rain during the middle part of the week. The sun however did make an appearance towards the end of the week making it feel rather pleasant in the autumn sun. A rather cool North-westerly wind blow for the majority of the week.

Adam Smith decided to go in Turtle Corner, he had a total of 12 carp for the week with 2 doubles, 4 x 20’s to 29lb, 2 x 30’s to 36lb. Adam had all 3 rods at 20 wraps in-line with the island. He was baiting up every day just before tea with 2 kilos of CC Moore Pacific Tuna Boilies over the area with his catapult. Over the course of the week he used 15kg of boilies, rig wise he was using a Blowback rig with a size 6 Wide gape hook and a Pacific Tuna Bottom bait with a Krill pop up as his hook bait.

Darren Nokes was set up in Tea Party 1.  Over the course of the week he had a total of fourteen carp, 3 doubles, 4 x 20’s, 5 x 30’s up to 38lb and a 46lb 4oz mirror, this was a new PB for Darren. Two of his rods were cast out at 16 wraps in-line with Turtles Corner and his other rod was at 15 wraps in-between Shingles and Turtles. Darren was baiting up every day with a kilo of boilies over each area and topping up after every fish, using the ever faithful IQ D-Rig with an Atlantic Heat wafter as hook bait. Over the course of the week Darren used 20kg of Atlantic Heat Boilies from Baitworks.

Matt Hammond went into The Poo with 2 rods out at 10 wraps in line with Shingle's and his right hand rod at 8 wraps in line with Turtle's Corner. He started by baiting little and often with only 100 boilies over each spot and Monday morning he was rewarded with a 23lb 8oz Mirror, then on Thursday afternoon just before dinner he had a cracking Scaly Mirror which tipped the scales at 36lb. On Friday it all kicked off, with Matt having a 31lb 12oz Mirror and a monster Mirror of 50lb 4oz known as "Amstel", which set a new PB for Matt; awesome angling!! The fish all came on a Hinged Stiff Rig with a Baitworks Royal Marine Wafter as hook bait. During the week he used 15kg of boilies.

Trevor Jackson went into The Goo and decided to fish all three rods at 10 wraps with a good spread out in-front of him. He used his catapult to put out around 100 boilies over each rod, then on Sunday morning he had a screaming take on his middle rod which turned out to be a stunning Common weighing 42lb and yet another new PB. Over the week he used 15kg of boilies. Trevor was using a simple IQ D-Rig with a Wafter as hook bait.

Nick Reijckers was set up in Shingles, over the course of the week he landed 4 carp. 1 double, 2 20’s and a 42lb Common which was another new unnamed fish. Nick had the honour of naming it, going with “The Submarine”. Fishing 2 rods at 16 wraps in-line with Tea Party 1, his other rod was cast down the left hand margin at 7 wraps. Nick was baiting up every day with 2kg of the Mainline test bait: The Link. Nick baited up after every fish with his throwing stick, just to keep the spot topped up. Nick was using the ever popular IQ D rig with a size four Korda Kurv hook and a Link Wafter as hook bait.

Aad Reijckers went into Double Boards to be next to his son who was in Shingles, he had 2 rods at 10 wraps towards the goo and his right hand rod was up the right hand margin at 6 wraps. He put out a kilo of the New Link boilies from Mainline Baits over each rod to start and then he would top up after every fish. He was using a IQ D rig with a White Link wafter as hook bait, Aad had a total of 4 carp for the week a 20lb mirror and 3 doubles.

Craig Mann went into the Decoy swim. He had a total of five carp for the week, 2 x doubles, a 22lb common, and a 34lb common. Craig had 2 rods straight out at 16 wraps and his third rod cast up to the bund at 16 wraps, Craig was baiting up every day with 2kg of boilies, using a Ronnie Rig with a white pop up on one rod and a IQ D rig on the other rods. Both are a winning formula on the Road Lake at the moment.

Shane Stephens was set up in Birches. He was fishing 2 rods at 16 wraps straight out in front and his left hand rod was cast at 14 wraps just to the left of the swim. During the week he used 20kg of boilies, Shane was using a hinge stiff rig with a white pop up as his hook bait, it wasn’t until Thursday that Shane had his first take, landing a 35lb8oz common, it was a tough week for some anglers this week, but they have stuck to their spots and saved the blank.

Steve Phipps was set up in the Beach, he had a rod down the left had margin at 14 wraps and his other rods cast straight out in front at 19 wraps. Steve baited up daily with a kilo of boilies over each rod, an IQ D rig with a wafter topped with a piece of fake maze landed 4 double a 23lb mirror and a cracking 30lb Mirror.

Well that’s it for another week here on the Road lake and there is only 4 weeks left till the Road lake closes until April 2018, there are still spaces left for next year but they are filling up fast so check out the web site and get booking lads!! There will be a 60lb plus carp out next year for sure, with 10 carp over 50lb and 70 carp over 40lb with loads of 30s and 20s, things are looking good.
