Week Commencing: Sat 02/09/2017

Big Mac is out for Connor the Big Feller at 53lb.

Not such a great week on the Road Lake, but there were some nice carp landed including Big Mac at 53lb for Connor smashing his PB by 20lb, also a few more PB broken which is what its all about. Weather was over case for most of the week, with some sunny spells in-between, temperature up to the high 20’s, with the night time temperature down to a chilly 10 degrees, and the lake temperature was around 14 degrees.

Rob Mitchell was set up in Tea Party 1.  Over the week he landed 11 carp. rob had 4 x doubles, 5 x 20’s a 34lb8oz mirror, and a cracking common called Eye-Q at 42lb.  All three of his rods were cast straight out at 20 wraps inline with Turtles corner.  Rob was baiting up every day with his spomb and throwing stick with 4kg of CC Moore Pacific Tuna Boilies, he was using a blow back rig with a Pacific Tuna wafter as his hook bait, great angling Rob.

Connor Mulcahy was set up in Birches.  He had one rod out to the left at 14 wraps, and his middle rod right and right hand rod was cast straight out in front of him at 16 wraps.  During the week Connor used 30kg of CC Moore Pacific Tuna boilies, he was using a D rig with a Pacific Tuna wafter as his hook bait. Over the week Connor landed 4 carp, 1 x double, a 38lb mirror, a 40lb mirror, and a cracking mirror called Big Mac which went 53lb, what a week for Connor smashing his PB by 20lb.

Andrew Hull “Hully” went into Bachelier’s his left hand rod was cast at 21 wraps up the left hand margin, the other two rods were cast out at 17 wraps inline with single boards, he baited up each spot with 3kg of Urban Baits Spicy fish boilies, it wasn’t long before mully was into his first carp a 21lb common, he then had a small double. After no action he went down to The New Beach as there were carp showing down there, it wasn’t long before he was into his first fish a 24lb11oz common, then 10min after that he was into another one, but as it got to the net the hooked pulled out. That didn’t disappoint him he because he went on to have another 5 carp to 37lb8oz, Mully was casting to showing fish, he was casting out a single hook bait then with his catapult he would put out a couple of hand full of boilies over the top, mully was using a simple IQ D rig with a 18mm bottom bait.

Neil Brock decided to go in Turtle Corner, through out the week he had 2 x doubles, 3 x 20’s to 25lb and a 35lb12oz common.  His left hand rod was cast along the left hand margin at 18 wraps, his middle rod was at 17 wraps towards Tea party 1 and the right hand rod was cast at 17 wraps this was inline with Tea Party 1.  Neil was baiting up with two kilos of boilies over each spot every day just before tea.  Over the course of the week he used a total of 35 kilos of Mainline Cell boilies, and rig wise he was using the IQ D rig with a 18mm Cell wafter as his hook bait.

Harris Harwood was in Billys and he had a total of 8 carp for the week. one double, 2 x 20’s to 23lb,4 x 30’s to 35lb8oz and a 40lb8oz Common which was not a named fish, so he got to name it, he decided to call it Big Bob after one of his friend died, what a really nice idea.  Harris had two rods at 20 wraps inline with Tea Party 2, and the third rod was cast to the right hand margin at 17 wraps towards the over hanging tree.  Over the week he used 20kg of CC Moore Pacific Tuna boilies.  Harris would bait up after every fish just to keep them interested, he was using a blow back rig with a Pacific Tuna boilie for hook bait.

Barrie Channon went into Decoy. He had a total of 4 carp for the week, a 20lb8oz common and 3x 30’s to 38lb. Barrie had two rods straight out at 16 wraps and his other rod was cast down to the bund at 16 wraps.  Barrie was baiting up every day with 6kg of CC Moore Pacific Tuna boilies with his spomb and throwing stick, he was using a D rig with Pacific Tuna wafter as his hook bait.

Steve Hughes decided to go into the Brambles swim.  He had all three rods straight out at 16 wraps, Steve spoded out 5kg of Bait Works Atlantic Heat boilies every day just before dinner.  An IQ D rig with a Balanced Bottom Bait done the trick to land a cracking 33lb14oz mirror, a 33lb common, a 32lb common and a 31lb8z mirror.

Pete Caddy AKA O.A.P went into The Goo he decided to put two rods straight out at 10 wraps inline with shingles and his other rod was cast at 8 wraps inline with Double Boards, it wasn’t long before he was into his first carp of the trip, a little 18lb mirror. After a couple days of no action he moved into The Poo, Pete put 2 rods out inline with shingles and the other rod was at 8 wraps inline with Turtles Corner, that afternoon he had a take on his middle rod, but he lost that one, after seeing a few fish in Dunkerque he fancied another move, Pete was baiting up just before dinner, over the week he used 15kg of Mainline Cell boilies. He was using a simple Knotless knot with a size 4 hook with a Cell bottom bait.

Well that’s it for another week here on the Road Lake, we had another great bunch of lads out again this week.

Please remember that we only allow the pellets that we supply to be used at the lake, these cost 60 € for a 20kg sack and can be reserved by calling us in advance of your trip ready for your arrival.  10kg bags of frozen boilies from Mainline can also be reserved and purchased onsite, again you can call to reserve these too.  We have an onsite tackle shop as well stocking a selection of tackle from Korda that can be purchased during your stay should you need anything whilst at Gigantica.

Lunches are also available to be delivered to your swim each day, these cost 4 € a day and consist of a baguette with a choice of fillings.  Please see the bailiff onsite to arrange this.  All food, tackle and bait onsite must be paid for in euros and cash only at the lake.
