Week Commencing: Sat 23/07/2016
The weather conditions were much better this week, with it being overcast and not so hot the carp went on the feed and the daytime temperature was only 30 degrees with night time temperatures being a nice cool 20 degrees, with a cooling north easterly wind for most of the week, the lake temperature was 21 degrees.
First of the mark was Martin Allen who was set up in Turtles Corner, he had a total of 8 carp which included a cracking 45lb common called the Lake Record Common, 3 x 30’s to 36lb 10oz, four doubles’ and a 22lb 8oz common. All three rods were wrapped up at 16 rod lengths, they were then cast just off the left hand margin, Martin was going round and baiting up every day before dinner with 2kg of Mainline Cell boilies. He had all of his fish on the IQ D rig with a Gigantica Banoffee wafter.
Toby Rhodes was set up in Dunkerque, he had a total of 21 carp for the week which includes a 41lb mirror called scarface, 3 x 30’s to 39lb 8oz, 8 x 20’s and 9 x doubles. He had all three rods wrapped up at 14 wraps and cast straight out in front of the swim. Toby was baiting up every day with 3kg of Mainline Cell boilies and a kilo of the Gigantica pellets. Toby was using the IQ D rig with a Mainline Cell wafter as his hook bait to good effect.
Rob Marshall was set up in Birches, he had a total of 9 carp for the week including 5 doubles and 4 x 20’s up to 29lb 12oz. Rob had all three rods wrapped up at 18 wraps and cast onto the end of the bar in front of him. He was baiting up everyday before dinner with 2kg of boilies and a kilo of the Gigantica pellets. Then, like many, he was using the IQ D rig with a spicy peanut wafter hook bait.
Adrian Guy was set up in The Decoy swim. He was fishing onto the bar at 20 wraps, and was baiting up every day with 3kg of Mainline Cell boilies and 2kg of Gigantica Pellets. After a few days he noticed that the carp were cruising on the surface, so he decided to put out a 13ft zig with a piece of yellow foam. It wasn’t long before his rod ripped off and after a short battle he goes and lands a cracking 39lb 8oz mirror. Using zigs is something that isn't really done much on the Road Lake, so something maybe worth considering trying. He went on to have a 29lb 12oz common and a 22lb 2oz mirror as well.
Nick Rhodes decided to go into The Cage swim next to his son Toby, who was in Dunkerque. Over the week Nick used 10kg of boilies and 5kg of gigantica pellets. He had two rods down the right hand margin and his other rod was cast straight out in front at 14 wraps. The IQ D rig with a Banoffee wafter done the trick to land 2 x doubles and a nice 22lb common. But he wasn’t to bothered as long as his son was catching the carp, a good week away with his son was more important.
Simon Nicholas was set up in Brambles for the week. He was casting all three rods to the bar at 20 wraps and baiting up every day with 3kg of Mainline Cell boilies and 2kg of Gigantica pellets. Simon was using the IQ D rig with a Banoffee wafter as his hook bait, over the week he had 2 x doubles and a 26lb mirror.
Gary Morrell was set up in Tea Party One. His left hand rod was cast just to the left of the swim at 20 yards, the other two rods were cast straight out in front at 15 wraps. Fishing a KD rig with a Krill boilie was his chosen rig for the week, and on Wednesday he landed a nice 27lb mirror.
Rick Gross was in Tea Party Two, and he was fishing to the far margin. Over the week he used 10kg of boilies, then on Thursday he landed a 30lb mirror. Rick was using a DF ready tired rig with a Mainline Cell wafter.
Just a quick up date to all coming to Gigantica Road Lake this year. we no longer supply weigh scales, so please can you bring your own set.
Also please take note but unfortunately due to having problems disposing of glass bottles we no longer have bottled beer on site and have moved onto cans, so if you bring or buy glass bottles you will have to dispose of them yourself.
Thank you in advanced for your understanding and for your co-operation.
